A day after holding up a square of Astroturf to denounce the orchestrated attacks on Democratic town hall meetings on health care, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's office said he would be talking with his Nevada constituents this month over the phone lines.
Reids office is scheduling a telephone town hall meeting for August, opting to avoid the shouting matches and microphone speeches that have erupted at events across the country. The senator expects to reach thousands of Nevadans, including those in the states rural expanse.
Its a forum that obviously lets us reach more people, but also provides a more respectful environment that allows all sides to be heard, said Reid spokesman Jon Summers.
Its more the dialogue that town halls were meant to be, as opposed to the organized disruption were seeing in other town halls, Summers said. This is so Nevadans who want to be heard can voice their concern, support and their opinions.
Details of the event will be announced in coming weeks.

Remember the little radio and TV spot series of “Profiles of Courage”?
I have no idea why that came to mind when seeing the headline./sarc
Democrats — Party of cowards!
Perhaps, or not. Actual history taints my youthful memory.
They do not serve the people, the make the people serve them.
Beleive me, I know too well. Everytime I go out to Vegas to visit with my mother and sister I get in a few jabs at their precious senator. It ticks them off but I think I finally may be getting through to them.
Cowards, cowards, cowards.
There should be an attempt/invitation made to Reid to come to a meeting. When he refuses, demonstrate in downtown Vegas while he’s giving his phone job.
Outstanding idea. It would be good to get a congressman to sponsor and write that. Get a CBO study done on the amount of money that would save. Then splash it from one end of the country to the other.
Libs don't want to hear what the people want - they want to dictate to the people what THEY want.
Democrate are running scared. I do hope Reid gets voted out of office next year.
****The RATs are hiding in the dark, GOOD! The cowards will have the public
carrying torches searching for them and voting them out of office. ****
You don’t understand the power of the dark side Luke Skywalker.
The liberals will vote for him in droves, they love the “free” stuff.
Brave!
You are Spot on. Americans better wake up about that "Free" stuff.
since they seemed to have no problems with calling out their “rent a mobs” to protest at the homes of private business executives....
If they won’t come out and have town hall meetings, isn’t it time to protest at THEIR homes???
It’s really time for the Republican Party to start a “phone it in” ad campaign attacking this foolish Dem tactic. “Where are you Harry” would be another nice theme to get the 2010 election off to a start in Nevada. Come on Pubbies, get it going. You are about to get hit with a huge Lib ad campaign trying to sell us Socialized/Communist Health care. Time to get off the dime.
Gee, I remember the Times?, printing photo's of security cameras and addresses
of the Bush admin employees. And then there's that little thing about the Crawford
hangout at the Bush ranch, but then who remembers the past.
So, if you're not on the approved list, you don't get invited to participate - And if you ARE on the approved list and ask an embarrassing question, His Highness can still hang up on you...
I think the word ducking could be altered a tad.
They PUSH their stuff on everyone but do not have the ACORNs to stand before the voters. Pathetic.
Just like my Congressman David Obey (D-Wisconsin) who ISN'T planning any town hall meetings. Obey likes to be a blowhard but doesn't like to listen to any opposition.
Probably not.
McCain's a RINO, but he's no coward.
If in doubt, consult McCain's military service record. It speaks volumes.
Mark Simone says what people should do is organize their own town hall meetings and put a cardboard cut out of the Democrat behind a podium or just put an empty chair up with a photo of the Democrat taped to it.
Then advertise the townhall and get the local media to show up.
Sounds like a great idea.
