Last week, POLITICO asked the 11 House Republicans co-sponsoring the so-called "birther" bill requiring presidential candidates to prove they were born in the U.S. for copies of their own birth certificates.
It is not, of course, a requirement for members of Congress to either produce a birth certificate or be natural born citizens of the United States.
But we decided to ask anyway:
The bills original sponsor, Rep. Bill Posey of Florida, is out of the country but sent this e-mail: I do not have a copy of my certificate handy, because there is no constitutional requirement for it. He says he'd authorize us to get it from the bureau of vital statistics, though, and will present a certified copy if he ever runs for president.
Some of the six Texans co-sponsoring the bill had an easier time of it, since the Houston Chronicle had already asked for their birth certificates.
But Texas Rep. Randy Neugebauer declined the chance to show his proof of birth. His staff sent a one-line e-mail response: Congressman Neugebauer will not be submitting a copy of his birth certificate."

Pollutico.
or $5
This was playing into their hands.
The sponsors of this bill should all get back from break and submit written permission for the public to view their long form BC.
Then ask 0 to do the same.
Let Politico [Mike Allen] ask Obama to release his birth certificate at the next press conference.
Bump for an excellent reply...lol
Did the Houston Chronical have 'standing' to ask such a question?
Politico started out as a somewhat fair and balanced rag. But it went into full blown propaganda mode during the campaign and has not been able to turn back.
It’s a joke now.
ROTFLOL. Trying to throw the ball back in the wrong court; I see. Good for the Republicans. Why doesn’t Politico show their birth certificates? All of them. LOL
This is straight out of Rules for Radicals.
By the way if they have and publish your mother’s maiden name, thieves have one more piece of the puzzle to stealing your identity, or fraudulently establishing credit in your name.
We already know Obama’s claimed mother’s name from his two autobiographies that the press unquestioningly used as a substitute for independent research into his background.
But I might do it anyway if the reporter agreed to publish theirs alongside mine.
No, actually the question is:
Why don’t any of these “journalists” ask OBAMA for his instead of all the excuses and red herrings?
They can ask members of Congress, but can’t ask of the Constitutionally required “Pres__ent”?
I wrote the State of New Jersey a few years ago and got additional copies, just in case I needed them. It was ridiculously easy, even for New Jersey.
There’s a big difference between “can’t” and “won’t”. Jo-bama “WON’T” provide his birth certificate. That’s a little different than somebody who can’t.
IDIOTS!!!
Representatives only have to be citizens for seven years and a resident of that state at the time of election. (Art. 1 Sec. 2) Their birthe certificates mean NOTHING!!!
I don’t have a copy of mine either, but I could obtain a notarized one from the county registrar where I was born by mail. I’ve done it before and I’m not even the president. 0bama’s had plenty of time to come up with one and instead is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to shut down the lawsuits requesting it. It looks to me like he has something to hide, I just don’t know what it is.
“FREE THE LONG FORM!”
Well, then what was the point of the exercise? Oh, I see. To distract from the real question. Let's see it barry
Ask them when will we see Obama’s original long form birth certificate?
I enjoy how you take the opportunity of the first response to a story that you post to tell us of the low opinion you hold for the writers of the story. Makes me SO GLAD you brought it to my attention!
