Secret Service Hated Jimmy Carter
newsmax ^ | August 6, 2009 | Jim Meyers

Jimmy Carter was the "least likeable" president, Ronald Kessler reveals in his new book about the Secret Service that chronicles the agency’s activities guarding every president from Kennedy to Obama. "In the President's Secret Service: Behind the Scenes With Agents in the Line of Fire and the Presidents They Protect," already an Amazon.com best-seller since its publication on Tuesday, features startling disclosures about the presidents and their families. Newsmax Chief Washington Correspondent Kessler, the first journalist to penetrate the wall of secrecy that surrounds the U.S. Secret Service, based his book on interviews with more than 100 current and former agents. Agents told Kessler that Jimmy Carter treated them and others who served him with utter disdain. "Inside the White House, Carter treated with contempt the little people who helped and protected him," and told agents not to look at him or speak to him — even to say hello — when he went to the Oval Office, Kessler disclosed. "For three and a half years, agent John Piasecky was on Carter's detail — including seven months of driving him in the presidential limousine — and Carter never spoke to him, he says. "At the same time, Carter tried to project an image of himself as man of the people by carrying his own luggage when traveling. But that was often for show. When he was a candidate in 1976, Carter would carry his own bags when the press was around but ask the Secret Service to carry them the rest of the time." On one occasion, disgruntled agents deliberately left Carter's luggage in the trunk of his car at an airport, and Carter "was without clothes for two days." At his home in Plains, Ga., Carter once tried to attack and kill a small dog with a bow saw.

Considering that LBJ peed on an agent’s shoes one time and told him “that’s what you’re there for”, this condemnation of Carter is saying a lot.

I suspect the WH staff is taking a bit of abuse these days, but are loyal and will not talk. Actually they may fear too much to talk.

Carter was exactly like the press tried to portray Nixon as being.

Nixon treated his underlings with respect and tried to protect them. That's what got him entangled in Watergate.

I thought I couldn’t dislike this man any more. I was wrong. I wonder what they’ll say about 0 when he’s out of office (soon, I hope).

Bush 43 must have been a plum assignment to the SS agents that were detailed to him. I haven’t heard how Bush 41 treated his SS detail.

The SS agents according to the book liked Poppy Bush or 41. Very down to earth.

I think Jimmy Carter is guilty of treason for his unauthorized dealings with terrorists, but I cannot endorse these kind of hearsay biographies. Didn’t these Secret Service guys swear an oath not to do things like this?

I don't know about Slick but the word was Hillay and
Chelsea were none to polite to the SS agents either nor to the military personnel..called the military their Personal Pig Force.
What a breath of fresh air it must have been for the military and the SS and WH staff to have served the Bush families who were always so considerate of those charged with their care.

I positively loathe Bill Clintoon. Yet he comes in two notches above Carter in my estimation.

Carter is the definition of worthless.
