I am thrilled that Americans are choosing Toyota and Ford over the “public option” of Chrysler and especially GM.

No problem here.

Over here in the UK the Ford Focus is the top seller.

People buy the car they want, not the car that other people think they should have. That’s the way it should be.

Doesn’t bother me. I thought about trading in my clunker for a Nissan Versa. Not sure yet what I’m gonna do.

Not really. I've hated Fords since I bought a new 1970 Torino.
It literally fell apart at 12,300 miles. 300 miles AFTER the warranty expired.

But I don't like rice burners either. After that Ford I bought a 1973 Toyota Celica ST coupe, no winner either.

Heck,I may trade the bimmer in for a new M3 but I won't get the lousy 4500.00USD.Who cares?I'll just pay for it out of my gold account profits.

The only problem is that they did it using TAXPAYER MONEY.

I really, REALLY don’t like buying cars for other people.
Maybe it’s just me.

Otherwise, people should be free to use THEIR MONEY to buy the car of their choice, foreign or “domestic’.

I hate seeing cars that may need a little TLC being crushed for nothing. That’s throwing money down the drain.

Maybe if Ford had deigned to give north America the real 2nd-generation Focus that they get in Europe, rather than the warmed-over model originally introduced in 2000 that we do get, they’d still be in a leading position. I’ve never quite understood this move - I suspect they needed a really cheap model with good fuel economy that they could shovel out the door to increase their CAFE ratings. Of course, as Honda and Toyota show, these compact cars can be bread and butter models that produce significant sales AND profits.

Other than that the Corolla is the most boring, noisy, slow car I have driven (a rental) since my ‘74 Vega, nope, no problem.

I have two Fords in my garage now. A new 09 Focus which will get it’s first oil change this weekend, and a 26 Ford which has had lots of oil changes.

The Corolla/Camry and the Ford Focus have been going back and forth for years. Some years Ford cuts the price of the Focus in order to hit the top seller mark, so they can have bragging rights.

Another Fiesta lover. Had two and sold the pair with nearly 300K combined mileage. They were in use long after. Even our $25. parts car (nearly complete) was fixed by the buyer and on the road a few days later. If the Fiesta had a 5th gear they would have lasted much longer with better mileage. Great little “world” cars.
