Another retiring Republican senator is saying yes to Sonia Sotomayor's nomination to the Supreme Court.

Sen. Judd Gregg (R-N.H.) is the eighth Republican to announce his support for Sotomayor, making it clear that the judge will get somewhere between 65 and 70 yes votes for her confirmation vote Thursday evening.

I thought NH was the live free or die state. Mere words I guess. Too bad

Problem is, all of the retiring Repubs are voting for her. We cant vote them out, they are quitting.

Here’s some not-so-good news.

Sotomayor will be confirmed by about 70-to-30.

Yet another reason to not send the RNC another dime. As if we needed another reason.

...in NH he might be safe...

He is retiring, as is Kit Bond. I guess they dont care what their supporters think anymore. All politicians are such ———!

People who are pro-life and pro-gun do NOT vote for Sotomayor. Senator Casey the Younger is, in reality, neither as evidenced by this vote. Don’t concede his re-election just yet.

Greg is retiring, this is simply one last slap in the face to the folks who voted for him.

Toomey, Bond, and Graham support Sotomayor, Murkowski and McCain oppose her? That's very odd I would have guessed the opposite would have happened. It it gets any weirder, Coburn will announce he's a yes vote while Susan Collins condemns her.

>> I have to give Republicans credit, as they’ve put up a better fight than I thought they would. They didn’t roll over like they did with Ruth Bader Ginsburg. <<

I disagree. Sure, they got a few more Republican "nay" votes than they did with Ginsburg (oddly enough even Clinton's other nominee, the less fringe but equally liberal Stephen Breyer, got more nay votes than Ginsburg as well), but no where near the type of opposition the RATs showed to people like Roberts and Alito. At least they were harder on Sotomayor during her confirmation hearings than they were on Hillary (the Hillary "vetting" was a love fest), but there was no "borking" in the least. If any Republican had made a mistake about a "wise white man" being able to render better decisions than hispanic woman, his judicial career would be OVER. The only "symbolic" vote I would have cared about is all 40 Republicans voting NAY. >>

“Pat Toomey says Sotomayor is qualified for the High Court too.” Not one of his better choices. If I’m not mistaken, Toomey is soft on illegals and supports Free Trade. However, he’s going to be the nominee, so these complaints won’t do much good. <<

Toomey does have a "more conservative" primary challenger in the form of Peg Luksik, but with her 0 wins, 3 losses track record of running for office I think she's a non-starter and would lose to the RAT in the fall election. Though if I knew Toomey was going to safely win the primary anyway, I might cast a token vote for her just to send a message. Toomey would be infinitely better than Specter, but he does need to hear from the base about not rubber stamping Obama nominees.

There are eight Republicans who have announced they would support Sotomayor and 31 who have announced opposition. That leaves George Voinovich of Ohio as the last undecided. IMHO, he’s more likely than not to support her, but could pleasantly surprise us. Voinovich is nothing great, but he’s not Lowell Weicker, either.

Boo.

Electoral posturing I presume.

Would he be saying this if he was still in primary with Specter?
