It would be quite characteristic of this man to do that and also leave cunningham in his cell.

Damn. I was hoping for a perfect 1.000 batting average. Well, .688 isn’t too shabby.

A lot of FReepers said this would never happen.

One small step in getting rid of the real culture of corruption.

You’re premature. He will appeal the conviction. He will remain free during the appeal process and he will refuse to resign his House seat. Moreover, the Demrat Party will not force his resignation for the obvious reasons: He’s black and they want his vote.

How many spots do the Dems have to lose one way or the other for the balance of power to shift to (1) stalemate and (2) Pubbie control. Not that the latter means much, because RINOs will continue voting Demrat agendas.

Most corrupt regime ever.

Chicago politics at the federal level.

Truly sad.

"He will remain free during the appeal process and he will refuse to resign his House seat."

He lost his reelection bid last year.

I know. But he’ll not give up the House seat until it comes time to vacate it for the new person.

It wouldn’t even surprise me if Jefferson refuses then. He will claim the “false” allegations against him cost him his seat and, therefore, he’s entitled to the job, until final adjudication of his case.

“But he’ll not give up the House seat until it comes time to vacate it for the new person.”

Have no fear. All is well in that department. Republican Joseph Cao now occupies that seat.

“Despite the tardiness of the election date, Cao was able to set up his office and staff and to gain committee assignments for the 111th Congress. The anomaly of the election of a Republican from a strongly Democratic constituency ensured an unusual amount of limelight for the generally quiet and self-effacing new U.S. representative.”

“On Tuesday, March 24, 2009, just 11 weeks to the day after he was sworn in as a new member, Cao delivered his first speech on the House floor—a statement supporting a bill by California Democrat Linda Sanchez to express congressional support of Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day.[44]”

Congressman Coa was sworn in on Jan. 6, 2009 with all the rest of the 111th representatives. Cold Cash Jefferson is gone.

Jefferson was accused of accepting more than $400,000 in bribes...
...so his fine will be about four bucks.
