After Professor Gates, Why Pretend?
NEW YORK--The current national conversation about race and the police reminded me about an incident that occurred when I was in Uzbekistan. As I walked into an apartment complex for an appointment I noticed the decomposing body of a man lying on the side of the road.
"How long as he been there?" I asked my host.
"Three, maybe four days," he said.
"What happened to him?"
"Shot, maybe," he shrugged. "Or maybe hit by a car. Something."
I didn't bother to ask why no one had called the police. I knew. Calling the Uzbek militsia amounts to a request to be beaten, robbed or worse. So desperate to avoid interaction with the police was another man I met that, when his mother died of old age at their home in Tashkent, he drove her body to the outskirts of town and deposited her in a field.
With the exception of New Orleans after Katrina, it's not that bad here in the United States. Consider Professor Henry Louis Gates: he shouldn't have been arrested by that Cambridge, Massachusetts police officer, but he came out of the experience physically unscathed.

I admit it: I don't like cops. I like the idea of cops. The specific people who actually are cops are the problem. My theory is that cops should be drafted, not recruited.

I don’t...I was a long haired know it all in my younger days and got pulled over and ticketed constantly. These same people that “hate” the cops so much sure wouldn’t be slow in calling 911 after being robbed.
I hate it when I get caught speeding but I do not envy their job.
He’d probably actually enjoy that.
I like cops. I like some specific cops. I particularly think my classmate, Mike Campbell, a policeman in Auburn, AL is topnotch.
Everyone?
Everyone hates cops?
You don’t speak for me. You don’t speak for the majority.
More boo-hoo from the libtards.
I worked in a county hospital in radiology in my 20’s. The crap that was hauled into the ER by the “evil cops” was astounding. One man was brought in buy the “evil cops” with foil wrapped around his ankles, wrists and midsection. He was wearing all black leather and just laid on the bed humming. He was afraid of his “energies” leaking. I kid you not.
The cops aren’t the problem. A bunch of racists who think the color of their skin is an excuse for everything; their criminal behavior, their failure to succeed in life, their failed marriages, their drug addictions, and the high crime rates and murderers in their neighborhoods. It’s all because they are black, and the cops “profile” them while they are caught committing crimes. running down the street in the middle of the night carrying a stolen TV isn’t why they were arrested, it was because they were black. After all, white people walk around carrying stolen TV in the middle of the night all the time, and they are never stopped and arrested...
This statement defines liberal arrogance across the board...
just because rall is a dick doesn’t mean most cops aren’t assholes.

Cops are a whole lot like most professions. Almost all of them are good people doing a stressful job. There are a few cops who (at least in the minds of those who don’t like cops) give the rest a bad name, but most are doing a tough job well.
I admit it, that I didn't read any further than this. My father taught me long ago that referring to the Police as cops was as much of a slur as using the N-word when referring to someone who was black. The only difference is that the Police are there to protect us and put their lives on the line everyday to do it. Unless you have a tendency to break laws, why would you slur someone that is trying to protect you?
Being a Cop is not an easy job, you never know what to expect when you approach a Car,House or anyone for that matter because some folks just hate Cops.
The left lives and breathes this song lyric:
“All the cops are criminals and all the sinners saints.” —Sympathy for the Devil
Ayers and his lovely wife, who back in the '60s, attempted to murder police officers, had his panties in a twist a few months ago, because he was being confronted about his past activities. His response was to call the police to come and protet him.
