U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett, fresh off a rousing neighborhood meeting on health-care reform that ended with people chanting just say no, said this morning hes more resolved than ever to seek congressional approval of health-care reforms.
The Austin Democrat said people who attended the gathering Saturday morning at a South Austin grocery store first heard him talk about why he favors change and then he took questions. Doggett said he subsequently said he wanted to talk one on one with crowd members interested in other issues, but that proved impossible because of deafening chants of just say no.
It was the din, Doggett said, that encouraged him to depart for a community event in Bastrop, where he said some in the Austin crowd followed. Later, he said, a few people opposed to Democratic health-care proposals showed up at a Democratic Party event in Bastrop.
Doggett said of his stop at the grocery store: It wasnt as if I wouldnt listen and respond. They had their say; they just went a little too far.
Separately, Doggett issued this statement today about Saturdays event:
"This mob, sent by the local Republican and Libertarian parties, did not come just to be heard, but to deny others the right to be heard. And this appears to be part of a coordinated, nationwide effort. What could be more appropriate for the party of no than having its stalwarts drowning out the voices of their neighbors by screaming 'just say no!' Their fanatical insistence on repealing Social Security and Medicare is not just about halting health care reform but rolling back 75 years of progress. I am more committed than ever to win approval of legislation to offer more individual choice to access affordable health care. An effective public plan is essential to achieve that goal."
Everyone knows what will stop this in it’s track. You just have to be committed to take the chance and do it. STARVE THE BEAST!
Goodx point, his senior citizen boosters are like the proverbial sheep to the slaughter, unknowing what they have done.
Recall him.
People in Dist. 24 think Doggett is there to protect them from “the interests” who are out to get them.
“This mob, sent by the local Republican and Libertarian parties, did not come just to be heard, but to deny others the right to be heard. And this appears to be part of a coordinated, nationwide effort.”
Yes it’s a nationwide effort to prevent a communist takeover of the United States by a few elitist power grabbers like you, Lloyd. Jackass. And we’re just getting started so make yourself real comfortable.
Already attempted: the district is rigged to keep Doggett there for the length of his natural life.
No recall is possible for a member of Congress or for any state or county official in TX. The liberals know how to entrench themselves, and the public cannot understand.
Sounds a lot like “let them eat cake”.
A hispanic conservative running in the Democratic primary would dislodge him.
“How quick before we could repeal Obamacare?”
In the morning, the conservative house passes a bill nullifying all obuma’s legislation and ending all funding. In the afternoon the conservative senate passes the house bill. About the time the dinnerbell rings, the conservative president signs the bill. At midnight it goes into affect.
So about 14 hours.
“No recall is possible for a member of Congress or for any state or county official in TX. The liberals know how to entrench themselves, and the public cannot understand.”
Rats.
Did/do the fascists think we’d really lie down and really die?
His wittle feewings werwe huwrt, so he's going to condemn all the sweet little ol' grannies of all all those UT students, not to mention all the abuelitas in East Austin to incarceration in Obama's Death Facilitation Camps?
He actually admits in public that this is his ridiculous rationale for supporting it blindly, since he doesn't even know what else is in the bill - indeed, no one does - yet?
Hmmm. I'd sure love to be a fly on the wall at all the political discussions around the Christmas tree when all these students go home for the holidays next December.
And if some strong familial persuasion doesn't work then, maybe all of Doggett's supporters' relatives will be able to straighten 'em out about their good friend Lloyd when it comes time to write their tuition checks.
Doggitt to constituents: “Get lost!”
The Ruskies aren’t going to be happy about renegging on his unconstitutional (it wasn’t approved by 2 thirds vote in Congress) pact to reduce our nuclear arsenal.
this guy must be nuts if he thinks for a minute he will ever be re-elected if he votes for health care.
I wish we could get schummer scared and get his a$$ out of office
