U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett, fresh off a rousing neighborhood meeting on health-care reform that ended with people chanting just say no, said this morning hes more resolved than ever to seek congressional approval of health-care reforms.
The Austin Democrat said people who attended the gathering Saturday morning at a South Austin grocery store first heard him talk about why he favors change and then he took questions. Doggett said he subsequently said he wanted to talk one on one with crowd members interested in other issues, but that proved impossible because of deafening chants of just say no.
It was the din, Doggett said, that encouraged him to depart for a community event in Bastrop, where he said some in the Austin crowd followed. Later, he said, a few people opposed to Democratic health-care proposals showed up at a Democratic Party event in Bastrop.
Doggett said of his stop at the grocery store: It wasnt as if I wouldnt listen and respond. They had their say; they just went a little too far.
Separately, Doggett issued this statement today about Saturdays event:
"This mob, sent by the local Republican and Libertarian parties, did not come just to be heard, but to deny others the right to be heard. And this appears to be part of a coordinated, nationwide effort. What could be more appropriate for the party of no than having its stalwarts drowning out the voices of their neighbors by screaming 'just say no!' Their fanatical insistence on repealing Social Security and Medicare is not just about halting health care reform but rolling back 75 years of progress. I am more committed than ever to win approval of legislation to offer more individual choice to access affordable health care. An effective public plan is essential to achieve that goal."
what theyre doing is blaming these rallies on out of state neer do wells..that hometown folks wouldnt be that “rude.” this allows them to say they really didnt realized the voters really didnt want this
Id vote against him for suggesting anything like that.
little liberal texas turdburglar
Nope. Waxman inserted language in committee to allow Congressmen to keep what they have now.
For thee, not for me, ya know.
..It was wonderfully effective....JUST SAY NO!
GAWD I hope this shows the democrats that they are going to lose every single state house and every close congressional race. ACORN will be out in force and we need to organize and insure that the secretary of states in each state run by dems is blanketed by lawyers on our side.
It's all out war next time.. The dems will steal every vote and rig the census to give red districts and states as many faux citizens as possible.
Somebody much smarter than me needs to try and get an organization similar to ACORN and put the legal monkey wrench into EVERY single suit. They file a suit.. we file 200 motions and counter sue. They investigate our candidates and elected officials... we do the same and go back and dig up tax records on EVERY single property exchange and "non profit" organization. We need to go through every single resume and do back checks to see the resume padding. Especially those claiming combat or military experience.
Call to arms folks ... lets get them with information and strike from a thousand different angles. Suits, FOIA requests, post their little "open house" or town hall "meetings" and get in their grills.
this is gonna be fun.
“The Austin Democrat...”
Austin, why would anyone ever buy that spin about his supposed more conservative or centrist positions? Doesn’t he always talk a big game (Cap and Tax) but almost always votes with the liberal majority in the dem party?
Yes, there's good folks in both...but on average...
That’s Racist!!! :)
Evil twin.
you can almost feel it....they are about to blow-off the American public and pass this thing anyhow to light the fuse...
Easy just ivite him to watch the bats from Congress Street bridge....Bring a rope.
I live in Austin and believe me he is an arrogant AH! He said when asked if he would vote for it even if the people didn’t want it he said YES! He’s not my representative but I will work to have him out.
Good republican of hispanic decent would be ideal for the district.
Damn! What you did to her right eye creeps me out! (Can I get a larger copy of that pic to send in e-mail...)
He is a representative. They are ALL up in 2010.
It’s not my graphic ... I will see if I can find a larger one.
Code Pink interrupted John McCain’s televised GOP acceptance speech.
That went down the media’s collective memory hole.
This was a public outdoor rally.
The Democrats are gearing up their “sit down and shut up” mantra they used in the 1990s.
You got that right. Chet is the classic speak one way in the district and vote another in DC. May he live with VA healthcare for he and his family.
It's good to be the politburo.
