Several hundred Bundeswehr soldiers, backed by heavy Marder tanks and fighter jets, are currently helping about 1,200 Afghan National Army forces conduct major anti-terrorist operations near the Taliban stronghold of Chahar Dara, southwest of the city of Kunduz, where the bulk of Germanys roughly 4,000 troops are stationed.
The fighting--which started on Sunday and involves looking for Taliban / Al Qaeda fighters village by village and house by house--is expected to go on until at least next week.
The Bundeswehr soldiers are part of the German-led NATO Quick Reaction Force (QRF), which provides force protection and serves as emergency back-up for Alliance troops.
Finally, as German media have pointed out, the current Afghanistan offensive marks the first time since the end of WW II that Germanys soldiers are again involved in major ground combat operations.

at least we’re ahead of Canada!
Definitely out of nowhere....when I first saw it, I did a double take ‘cause I thought it was a history piece. My brain saw it as “German forces launch offense in Northern Africa...”
Honest. Thought it must be some kind of anniversary or something.
Now, if they could just get Rommel to N. Afghan...
Canada, Israel, USA have bi-modal distributions.
For example, Israel Ashenazi Jews have very high IQs, but the Sephards have 100 and arabs have 84.
USA and Canada has similar issues, although it’s not politcally correct to talk about it.
With recent immigration from the ME (assiming the immigrants are of comprabe intelligence to those left behind), I would suspect Germany and France have similar modality issues, albeit not as pronounced as USA or Canada.
I wonder if they are actually prepared to shoot now. Up until now they have had orders to only defend themselves.
Good luck to them.
May they fight with the deadly efficiency of the Israeli Air force coupled with the warmth and sensitivity of the Ethiopian Army.
I don’t see Germany marching down a fascist path again—they learned their lessons—I want to see Germany become part of the world stage as a leader of a democratic/Christian Europe. Why should the US still have troops in Germany? What are we protecting them from? Now long ago it was OK but not now . Germany could defend us! We need them to help police the world. They could stamp out pirates, get the radical Islamic people etc... I do not want a re-play of WW II.
Where did you get that chart from? When I look at Wiki (I know, not perfect data by any stretch), most of the nations you listed are close, except for Israel. They show up as a 94 IQ and are ranked 59th. I also couldn’t find Iceland on the Wiki either. Here is the link I was looking at:

Ok, we need a picture of a Marder tank. How do they differ from the Leopard? Just an old tanker asking:)
It was Bing, one of the first results for “IQ bell curve” that had a cut-and-paste link.
Here’s wiki on Ashkenazi Jews.

I have a store with a washer down. Will be back shortly.
When I was in Germany, '59-'62, the Germans had some impressive full auto small arms(based on their WWII designs). Far superior the our M1s, which were still in use at that time, and superior to our M14s, which we finally obtained about '60.
They used to come onto our base several times a year and demonstrate, with blanks, what they could do. They were absolutely friendly and most of them spoke english and would answer any question we put to them.
Hopefully they are doing a professional job in Afghanistan now that we can't shoot back!
I think I figured out the issue with your chart. It appears to include the West Bank/Gaza in “Israel” which would bring the average down.
Correction to my last post

In August 1806, the Prussian king, Friedrich Wilhelm III decided to go to war independently of any other great power except the distant Russia.
The Russian army, an ally of Prussia, was still far away when Prussia declared war.
In September, Napoleon unleashed all the French forces east of the Rhine.
Napoleon himself defeated a Prussian army at Jena (14 October 1806), and Davout defeated another at Auerstädt on the same day.
Some 160,000 French soldiers (increasing in number as the campaign went on) attacked Prussia, moving with such speed that they destroyed as an effective military force the entire Prussian army of 250,000which sustained 25,000 casualties, lost a further 150,000 prisoners and 4,000 artillery pieces, and over 100,000 muskets stockpiled in Berlin.
At Jena, Napoleon fought only a detachment of the Prussian force. Auerstädt involved a single French corps defeating the bulk of the Prussian army.
Napoleon entered Berlin on 27 October 1806. He visited the tomb of Frederick the Great and instructed his marshals to remove their hats there, saying, “If he were alive we wouldn’t be here today”.
In total Napoleon had taken only 19 days from beginning his attack on Prussia until knocking it out of the war with the capture of Berlin and the destruction of its principal armies at Jena and Auerstädt.
By contrast, Prussia had fought for three years in the War of the First Coalition with little achievement.
