Michelle Obama's performance as first lady is getting high marks from her predecessor, Laura Bush.
Speaking to The Associated Press after a change of command ceremony for the USS Texas submarine in Connecticut, Bush says she's watched the current first lady from afar and is impressed.

Bless her heart.
Mrs Bush is the epitome of grace and class.
Oh yes, Michelle Obama is just awesome. AFK, vomiting.
‘Mrs Bush is the epitome of grace and class.’
No surprise here. She’s awesome.
From afar is indeed the best way to watch her.
Up close and you get less impressed:
The Bush family needs to stop worrying so much about being “nice” and start being honest. Both 0bamas are a pox on our country and are not deserving of praise.
This is just another example of why I’ll never vote for another Bush in my life. They keep thinking that if they’re just “nice” to the opposition they’ll be respected and admired and then liked by the Dems. It’ll never happen because Dems don’t work that way. Bush family members don’t seem capable of learning that.
I don’t think we have ever heard Mrs Bush say a negative thing about anyone. If someone close to me too the sort of abuse and derision directed at her husband, I wouldn’t be able to remain so serene about it. Not surprising at all that she would have kind words for her successor.
Laura is first and foremost, a lady. She walks in beauty, kindness, class and grace. She would never, ever utter an unkind word, unlike her harridan predecessor and successor.
Yes, Laura’s a nice lady. But frankly this is eyewash.
Better if she had followed the ancient rule: “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.”
It’s not Laura’s job to attack Michelle. But neither is it her job to defend her. It’s not as if Michelle doesn’t have US, People, Time, Atlantic, and everyone else saying how wonderful she is.

Some kind of funky urban survival skill, I guess. Tied in with the rampant passive-aggressiveness that passes for politeness here.
Not saying Mrs. Bush is like that...just saying.
Those words are so sweet from a decent lady-—but my teeth are developing cavities by just listening to that sugary syrup.
Michelle needs to copy more than just First Lady Laura Bush’s hairstyle.
What else would she say?? After all, she ISN’T a Clinton!!!
The Associated Press know an easy target when they see one.
When did they ever chase after Hillary Clinton for nice words about Laura Bush when she was First Lady?
Laura Bush should have asked them that.
Like Melanie in Gone with the Wind, Laura Bush seems incapable of thinking ill of someone. I guess she is far more a lady than I am. I calls ‘em as I sees ‘em.
Well, being nice never did anything to help Bush or push his agenda.
Secondly, why does Laura Bush (whom I respect more than any other first lady) have to say anything even? What in the world is she IMPRESSED BY???????
She is being gracious, as always.
