Another day, another gaffe. A few minutes ago in a joint appearance with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo of the Philippines, Obama stepped in it again.David Jackson of USA Today provides the details in his White House pool report:
Obama praised Arroyo for her efforts to fight terrorism, and her help in dealing with the problems of Burma and North Korea. He noted the Philippines is hosting a conference next year on nuclear non-proliferation. "We're going to have a busy agenda together," Obama said.Ahem. The Philippines is the 12th largest country in the world. It is larger in population than France, Germany, Egypt, Italy, Canada & the UK. It also covers a vast area of the western Pacific including more than 7,000 islands.
He said the Philippines is a small country, but, to use a boxing metaphor, it "punches above its weight in the international arena."

57 states, Philippines is a small country, often not knowing what city he was in on the campaign trail, the list keeps expanding. This bozo is as geographically challenged as they come. And the media keeps covering for him.

Will be my first trip there, been everywhere else. Looking forward to a few weeks of rest.
Could it be because they are a mainly christian nation who is trying to fight the Islamists in their southern islands, and bam bam no likey????

My sister-in-law is Filipina and my brother was married in the Philippines.FANTASTIC COUNTRY. Everything is dirt cheap with the ridiculous US dollar exchange rate. My brother went back there for business and he saw Dark Knight on Imax for $3. Went to Cebu for another buss. meeting and surfed from dusk til dawn the next day.
I might just retire there/ Buy a condo in Makati, party and drink Ginebra San Miguel til I drop.
My in laws are Filipinos and yes, Pacquiao is the king. Believe it or not, I live 5 minutes away from Freddy Roach’s Hollywood Gym here in Hollywood and whenever I pass by there before one Manny’s fights, the entire intersection is clogged with cars heading to that really small strip just to see pacquiao train. Unreal.
There a small country....in that there are so many lower case letters in “Philipines”

Yes, Obama will apologize for the evils of US history, if he knows we fought a dirty Vietnam-like war in the Philippines at the beginning of the twentieth century. Considering the historical errors he has made already, I wonder if he even knows the Philippines used to be part of the US.
On the other hand, I don’t picture him “bowing and scraping” before a woman president.
