Obama insults the Philippines.

Another day, another gaffe. A few minutes ago in a joint appearance with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo of the Philippines, Obama stepped in it again.David Jackson of USA Today provides the details in his White House pool report:

Obama praised Arroyo for her efforts to fight terrorism, and her help in dealing with the problems of Burma and North Korea. He noted the Philippines is hosting a conference next year on nuclear non-proliferation. "We're going to have a busy agenda together," Obama said.

He said the Philippines is a small country, but, to use a boxing metaphor, it "punches above its weight in the international arena."
Ahem. The Philippines is the 12th largest country in the world. It is larger in population than France, Germany, Egypt, Italy, Canada & the UK. It also covers a vast area of the western Pacific including more than 7,000 islands.

Could someone tell me why Obama is now insulting the Philippines? Oh that's right — they're an ally.

Beat me to it. He really is ignorant of the world...so much for his extensive travels and his worldly experience.

What a putz.

I’d hate to think of Hussein drinking a good cold San Miguel and ME not having one.

The last time I had a San Miguel was at the home of some new friends in Fallbrook California many years ago, as I walked by their TV drinking my San Miguel that they were supplying I saw the actor Martin Milner and made a wise crack about him.

It turns out it was his beer I was drinking and in his house, it was an awkward moment but the San Miguels helped me get over it I think his kids were kind of used to it.

It is almost impossible to believe that he is that stupid. But, I believe it.

And he's stupid. I mean he probably thought the Philippines were about the size of Hawaii, a place where he once lived.

Mania is growing leaps and bounds.

I think you mean Manila, a great dynamic city with great food, beautiful girls, and excellent outdoor entertainment everywhere.

Been there lots of times, always enjoyed my stay.

The Philippines is also democratic. Their politics is fun to watch. If you think Obama is being made fun off every day, you should see how their newspapers and talk show hosts caricature President Arroyo.

Well, close to 1 in 5 people who live and work in Hawaii are of Filipino descent. When Ferdinand Marcos was deposed in the People Power revolution in 1986, guess where he and Imelda went ?

Maybe he should sit down with Manny Pacquaio and have a San Miguel (my favorite is Pale Pilsen) with him...

Well, the best place to get that kind of information would be the CIA’s world factbook. But knowing the CIA, they probably beat up a goatherder in the mountains of Pakistan, who just so happened to be carrying an RPG, to get the information, so the information was therefor gained illegally.

What is all this terrorism crap I am hearing? Remember the memo, it is man caused disasters.

We even have the head of Homeland Security warning about terrorism, and I think she is the one that said we couldn't say that any more.

They are the 12th-largest country in terms of population, but thanks to Mrs. Marcos, they have the 4th-largest collection of shoes.

By 2025, the Philippines is expected to have a larger population than Russia or Japan.

Good catch there. But alas, didn't they stop filming these things because of his serial diplomatic gaffes? The pool report may be all we're likely to get.

Honestly, if it is true, this man has become the walking confirmation of the notion that the handmaiden of idiocy is often hubris.

No way does he not have people on staff who are perfectly capable of prepping him correctly for this stuff. But he's just so damn arrogant he doesn't realize just how over his head is & he actually believes he can wing it without doing his homework.

It's bizarre - like he has NO concept of his limitations whatsoever.
