Editorial: McCain's moment on Sotomayor [how will McCain vote on "the wise Latina"?]

Maverick senator should battle Supreme Court appointment.
It's time for Sen. John McCain to step up to the plate on an issue he usually leaves to others. The Arizona Republican ought to fight hard against the confirmation of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court.
Mr. McCain is usually not a partisan warrior on the subject of judges. But that's a reason why his active involvement would be effective. As the Republican Party's most recent presidential standard bearer, he commands more attention than almost any other senator in his party. As a man with a reputation for principled independence, his actions tend to carry more moral weight in the public eye than those of most other politicians.
As a self-proclaimed tribune of transparent government, Mr. McCain should argue that senators should give the public a chance to weigh in on such an important lifetime appointment before the Senate votes. Judge Sotomayor's poll ratings have been dropping like a rock; senators should try to ascertain why.
The fact of the matter is that Mr. McCain will have a much easier, more convincing case to make about why Judge Sotomayor should be rejected than the case he could make for confirming her.

And more... 3/4 of his constituents had better get their heads out of their rumps and elect a conservative next time (especially before they need medical care under Obamaworld!)!!!

I believe Lindsey Graham already screwed the pooch on this one. McCain can’t block it. The Pubs don’t have enough votes now that Graham got it out of committee for the Democrats.

JohnyMac will vote yes. Lindsey G. and Mccain are like two peas in a pod, what one does the other usually follows.
To: rabscuttle385
Why will J.D. Hayworth not run against him? McCain really needs a STRONG conservative opponent running for the ‘10 GOP Primary, and, both, Jim Deakin and Chris Simcox are too weak of candidates to seriously defeat McCain!

Since the public is trending strongly Republican, Rinos think their positions are safe. But these Rinos are in a weak position vis-a-vis their primaries.
Conservatives will show up to vote in the primaries and their desire to vote can be buttressed by the fact that any challengers who defeat Republican incumbants also have a better chance in the general than they've had in years.
This is a very good chance to rid the Republican Party of some of its Rinos.
And the sooner these Rinos understand this and realize we understand it, the greater the leverage the conservative base has with them until the primaries.
