A new government health insurance plan sought by President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats could coexist with private insurers without driving them out of business, an analysis by nonpartisan budget experts suggests.
The estimate by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office seen as good news by Democrats comes as leaders pushed Monday to make progress on health care overhaul before lawmakers go home for their August recess.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., says a floor vote is still possible in the next few days, and Democrats called a meeting of all their House members late Monday afternoon. In the Senate, a small group of lawmakers from both parties were resuming negotiations in search of an elusive compromise.
Obama's ambitious timetable for his top domestic priority has slipped as Democratic dissension has slowed the legislative work.
The White House and congressional Democrats were angered two weeks ago when the budget office director, Douglas Elmendorf, told Congress that the House bill lacked mechanisms to bring health care costs under control.
Now, Democrats are using the budget office's suggestion that a government-run insurance plan would not destroy private insurers to rebut one of the main charges against their proposal that it would lead to a federal takeover of the private health insurance marketplace.

This is AP spin/cherrypicking. The CBO report released today is actually worse than the first report they gave.
They didn’t say it would be fine. They said it could coexist. I suppose it could. It won’t, and it’s unlikely, but it “could”.
If the Dems want to hang their hats on “could”, I say let them. I do agree that the minutes from Obama’s meeting with the CBO director should have been on the public record.
Dont forget the Non-partisan Census bureau.
It appears that the BIG O subscribes to the “Everyone can be bought for a price” statement.
Recently it was AMA President Rohack selling out, now CBO director Doublas Elmendorf. I just goes on and on and on.
Not Good For The Future of America and Americans to say the least!
Soon will come the time to settle all family business.
1) The Constitution includes the phrase:
"[An} Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct."
2) Title 13, Chapter 1, Subchapter II & 21 Director of the Census; duties:
"The Bureau shall be headed by a Director of the Census, appointed by the President, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate. The Director shall perform such duties as may be imposed upon him by law, regulations, or orders of the Secretary."
The last time I checked Rahm Emanuel was never confirmed by the Senate, and he is not the Secretary of anything. That being the case, the Census is invalid. Am I wrong?
He may have made an offer that a jury of Impeachment cannot discard too. He was way outside the legal parameters by talking to the CBO chief.
It is going to pass, in some form or other, which will be a break for all the Pubbie-bashers on FR.
