So, it looks like the environmental Nazis are wrong yet again. We don't have a "finite" supply of hydrocarbons and for all we know, virtually all of our oil came from non-plant sources.

No one will believe this.
Oil “running out” is the way to control our lives.

Russian scientists have been of the opinion that oil is not from organic sources for a long time.

Was it Io or some other moon they said had strong evidence of hydrocarbons?

Very interesting. Thanks for the link.

"The notion that hydrocarbons generated in the mantle migrate into the Earth's crust and contribute to oil-and-gas reservoirs was promoted in Russia and Ukraine many years ago. It was inwented in Leningrad.

Oh, no!
Unlimited amounts of oil and natural gas means unlimited amounts of CO2 pollution. We will fry to death!!!!!!!! (Do I need to put in an /sarc tag?)

This theory has been around for some time and has been discussed many times on FR.
If oil is in fact being continuously produced in large quantities from deep within the crust and seeping up, why then is oil typically found in geologic basins?

I knew it seemed we had gone through a fair share of dead dinosaurs already. Either that or those suckers covered every inch of the planet.

I believe Thomas Gold did interesting work in this direction as well. The ideas are out there, and some evidence has been gathered — but there seems to be no real urge to make an effort and prove or disprove it.

Maybe the Penn Square Bank can syndicate loans to search for “deep gas”.
To: netmilsmom
You are exactly right...
I’ve been following these stories for years and it makes way too much sence. Perfect explaination as to way “tapped out” wells have been refilling....
Nice to see that they are still working on proving it out....

Where do tar pits come from? The bitumen came from somewhere. Does it need to come from plants?

Methane is one of the building blocks of the early solar system, it is very abundant int he gas giants, it wouldn’t suprise me if there were large amounts of it on earthy earth that have been compressed into hydrocarbons.
Only Coal has been proven to have been made from plant matter due to fossils of plants and Forrest animals being found in coal, plus we see peat , then soft coal and then hard coal or anthracite. We see natural gas and light crude and heavy crude. But little if any fossils in oil. It could be the shallow oil deposits are from fossils, but the deeper ones could be abiogenic.
