Their selfish voting habits exempt them from being “the most Christian group” of all races IMO....

I voted for W every time he was on a ballot. There are some things he did correctly, and I think he is an honorable man. My biggest problem with him is that whenever possible, he went to the moderates in the GOP. Conservatives were thrown overboard in an attempt to form a working relationship with the Democrats.

The Republican base is conservative, and millions flocked to Reagan when his conservatism and optimism worked. Reagan also had the unique talent of being able to disagree without being disagreeable. He responded to attacks, and did so effectively.

When debating Mondale, Mondale was trying to claim that he was strong on defense. Reagan retorted, "Yes, I saw the ad you did where you were standing on the deck of that aircraft carrier. Of course, if you'd gotten your way, you'd have been in deep water out there. You voted against that carrier four times."

I just took it to mean church membership or self identified or some other general definition of Christian.

I don't think it was meant to get people off into theological purity issues. Every body knows that Blacks and church and politics is a very weird area that is hard to figure out.

Going by memory I believe that blacks do fit into that category but I forget the details and really it doesn't have to be perfect to fit into qam1's post anyway, we understand what he was pointing out about the black protestant vote, it is as bad or even a little worse than Jews over the last 70 years or more and is definitly worse since 1964.

Well, those are my rambling thoughts. I did write something after the election of 2008, three parts, and it is coming true so far. I’ll see what I can do to post them.

Everyone, actually, is rationale. Democrats are ‘rationale’. Karl Rove was ‘rationale’. RINOS are ‘rationale’. The rules for this ‘rationale’, of course, vary from one group to the next. But they all are operating underneath their own set of rules.

For example, Karl Rove believed he could recreate the 4th Political Re-Alignment by turning George W. Bush into McKinley. McKinley, after the Spanish American war, absorbed German immigrants and created decades of Republican rule until the Great Depression. Karl Rove, and the Bush Administration, trying to get amnesty and all for illegal aliens was, of course, wrong, but it was ‘rational’ in that Rove was attempting to turn Hispanics into the German immigrants of long time ago. Of course, Rove failed. Rove is a very learned man, but he isn’t that bright. The future will not be like the past.

For Democrat Presidents, they have a tricky issue. Every Democrat President, since FDR, has been one term with one exception: Bill Clinton. Democrats never win re-election.

So to Democratic strategists, they always had two choices. They could either...

1) Take the Bill Clinton path. This is the path of ‘triangulation’ and ‘moderation’. Bill Clinton survived by picking up certain conservative issues as his own. After 1994, he stopped running around as a liberal and campaigned to the right.

2) Go the liberal path. However, due to the Center Right nature of the country, this will blow up and the President will only have one term. People talk about how bad Jimmy Carter was. But Lyndon Johnson, who got elected in a massive landslide, had so many problems (mostly due to Vietnam) that he didn’t even BOTHER running for re-election.

If you are a liberal, both of these strategies are not very satisfactory. Be liberal and implode, or be ‘moderate’ and not implode. Why can’t they be liberal and not implode?

So they look lovingly and adoringly at FDR. FDR did not implode. He was liberal, and he had four terms. This is why liberals can’t shut up about FDR.

The way how FDR seized political power is well looked at in the political science departments. He basically took McKinley’s coalition and created the New Deal Coalition. Liberals long for that New Deal Coalition again where different factions all kept voting Democrat.

However, the New Deal Coalition has been slightly overstated. What really helped FDR was the weakened Republican Party. The Republicans were stuck in New England. They never ‘grew’. Conservatives and rural voters were part of the New Deal Coalition. Republicans then all acted like Colin Powell and John McCain. In the twentieth century, when Democrats would mess up foreign policy, a Republican was brought in fix it. These Republicans, now RINOS, have one good quality: they are good at foreign policy. Eisenhower and Nixon were brought to clean up foreign policy messes.

One thing I don’t see Democrats talk about with FDR is that he truly was a master of oratory. People like to say that about Obama or other politicians, but they are awful. FDR was a words master. With Pearl Harbor, he would say “the day that lived in infamy”. In fact, the ‘New Deal’ was a term that came from a Mark Twain book, “The Connecticut Yankee”. FDR would smoke cigars and talk fire on the radio. His ‘fireside chats’ became famous.

Now, there is someone doing ‘fireside chats’ on the radio and smokes cigars. This person is not Obama. That person is Rush Limbaugh.

Anyway, Democratic strategists have been pining for a way to re-create FDR, a way to be liberal and not self-implode. So how do you do that? First, you would need an economic crisis on the same level as the Great Depression. Second, you would need an elitist, disconnected Republican Party who can only win states in New England. Third, you would need to have the country turn Center-Right to Center-Left.

2008 was a very orchestrated way of affairs. Stock market crash at the precise time months before election. They got cover by having Bush sign the TARP and begin the bail-outs. They would keep rushing in immigrants and perhaps even have Health Care to slow or eliminate potential conservative growth in order to turn the country to Center-Left. And they put considerable pressure to keep the Republican Party isolated from its voters. Liberals love RINOs for the obvious reasons. They would love Romney to be the next presidential candidate.

But there is one massive problem this great orchestra of events completely missed: we are no longer in the Industrial Revolution. We are in the Silicon Revolution. The rules have changed. They can and are controlling mainstream media. But no one watches that media anymore. People get news from many different sources these days. And despite countless attempts at trying, there is no liberal Rush Limbaugh.

When all is said and done, FDR came across as a man. And FDR spoke in inspiring words about the United States. Obama won’t do this. And Obama comes across as a Man Child.

The FDR revival is crumbling before their eyes. This is why I believe Zogby is saying what he is. He is saying it more to comfort himself and other Democrats. Anyone can see where this is heading.

At the beginning of 2008, people thought the election would be between Guiliani and Hillary Clinton. Since that was so wrong at the beginning of 2008, why are we even bothering to talk about 2012 in 2009? It is because people prefer to see a rising sun, not a setting sun. Obama is in big trouble.

Obama is looking more and more like the twenty first century version of Herbert Hoover, a popular senator elected as President. And the twenty first century version of FDR would be the ‘failed VP’ candidate who lost to Hoover. And that is where Palin is. But unlike being an aristocrat like FDR, she has the humble origins of Truman. She connects with people as FDR did. People really like watching her as her VP debate and SNL show ratings reveal.

I met Bush when he was running for Governor. I recognize the same hyper-competitiveness in Palin. She is going to fight. As a Texan, we like to pride ourselves on our cowboy awesomeness. There is only one state that puts the cowboy to shame: Alaskans. Those people, who live on the ceiling of the world, are truly fearless. Palin impresses other Alaskans so this girl has a ton of spunk in her.

Washington, as well as the Democrat and Republican Party, act like they are in the twentieth century. Palin would change that which has to scare establishment Republicans. Romney or Huckabee won’t change it. Palin would re-shift the Republican Party and perhaps give Republicans a lock on the women vote... this would destroy Democrats utterly.

There is only one person who can destroy Palin: Palin. If she does poorly in an interview or a speech, her poll numbers will tumble. Only she can bring herself down. So if she goes down, then she will deserve it as she will have brought it on herself.

On the other hand, all these attacks on her will just make her a stronger candidate. Obama would mess up all the time and the media would cover for him. This made him weaker than he should have been. This is why his press conferences fall flat.

Ironically, the liberals are creating their own monster here by making Palin stronger and stronger. There are only two ways to destroy Sarah Palin. The first would be if Palin destroyed herself. This depends on her doing something very stupid, something like Obama did with calling the cops ‘stupid’. The second would be to respect Palin as a person and out-debate her on the issues.

Liberals will never, ever do the second thing. Palin has to be respected first in order to be properly destroyed. And they cannot bring themselves to respect her. The more disrespect they show her, the more people become disrespected at the Democrats.

So we either need the RINOs (actually, most of the Rs) to see things our way, or we need to replace them with people who actually have the long-term health of our country in mind.

The Republican Party sucked before the conservatives took over. The conservatives can save the Republican Party when they move the RINOS out of the party.

Another fine post, you are laying it out there which takes courage and your thinking is fresh and stimulating.

You are the kind of poster that encourages the rest of us to start fleshing out our inner thoughts, theories and opinions more thoroughly in our posts.

Uh..., as you can see some of us aren’t very good at that and we need the inspiration.

Including THE fastest-growing demographic group: Palin supporters.

The answer is to teach them why handouts don’t work.

Yes, of course. But it takes a couple of generations to sink in.

It also takes someone willing to teach them. And there haven’t been a lot of such people in the GOP in recent years. Or, for that matter, in politics, generally.

Then it's time to form a Party to take the GOP's place.

I suggest this new party be called The Tea Party.
