Obama's Juvenile Use of Power
Washington Post ^ | 7/25/09 | Michael Gerson

Posted on 07/25/2009 3:48:21 AM PDT by JohnHuang2

The main problem with President Obama’s nationally televised comment about Cambridge Police Sgt. James Crowley had less to do with race and justice than it did with the unwise, immature application of presidential power.

Given his own background and friendship with Harvard professor Skip Gates, Obama’s immediate reaction to Gates’s arrest was understandable – he sided with a friend who felt victimized by petty authority. The facts surrounding the arrest, of course, are more complicated than that. While it is still not easy to be a black man in America, it is also, apparently, not easy for a police officer to deal with a prickly, self-important Harvard professor.

Stuck on Stupidly

Renowned healthcare and law enforcement expert Obama thinks a totalitarian healthcare system for America would be great but getting arrested for disorderly conduct is institutionalized oppression.

A bazillion unionized government "healthcare" bureaucrats would be telling you if and when and how you can see a doc, which doc, the number of carbon-neutral hamburgers and diet cokes you're allowed to have, while egging granny to go carbon-neutral by offing herself to rid the system of 'waste', but libbies see the Cambridge Police Department as the focus of oppression in the modern world.

Liberals think government is great at running the healthcare, banking, insurance, auto, steel, airline, real estate, retail and energy industries, but terrible with the municipal police gig.

So, during his prime-time "news" conference Wednesday Obama focused like a laser beam on pitching his government-run healthcare plan by . . . insulting a police officer.

Speaking from his vast knowledge about the case, Obama accused Sgt. James Crowley of acting "stupidly" for handcuffing lunatic Harvard prof Henry Louis Gates right in the middle of the 'struggle' over "health care and energy" and despite the two wars "we've got . . . going on." Before taking any action, local police always get briefed on foreign affairs and check with Henry Waxman's committee.

Finally realizing that he was in a hole, Obama on Friday tried to dig even more vigorously by insisting that, based firmly on his lacking the facts, he didn't speak "calibrated" enough about the case. The uncalibrated messiah who wants to calibrate your healthcare explained that he "could have calibrated" the slander "differently". But, calibrating further, he says he stands by his bogus assertion that police overreacted and blew the incident out of proportion when all his chum Gates had done was screamed and yelled and berated and harangued a uniformed police officer as part of a normal ritual called "being a Democrat".

Displaying his deft touch with police, the nut professor had followed Sgt Crowley out the front door and onto the porch, where he continued to scream and yell. Showing he had brushed up on the case, Obama interpreted this as Crowley "pulling Gates out of his home." Officers responding to a reported burglary at a home with a burglary history should assume the erratically behaving suspect forcing his way inside must be the owner. Do not ask for proper ID if he's black, not even real nicely, because that's racial profiling and therefore a barbaric thought crime!

Letting his "post-racial" mask slip and stupidly showing he's carrying a grudge against whites was Obama's real blunder-oo here. If he hasn't hit his Waterloo, he's off to a great start. All except those dead from the neck up see the halfwit community organizer standing on the racist soapbox in a different light after this "teaching moment" he's saved or created. His poll numbers are 're-calibrating' off a cliff after this stroke of brilliance and it's hard to return to your post-racial shtick while covering for some chap who goes postal at the sight of a white guy with a badge. Even ballerina boy Rahm and crew are having a rough go of damage control after Gates pulled the curtains back on Odumbo's 'post-racialism', showing his unfathomable distance from it. To top it all, Obama runs around the world apologizing to Muslims for attacking us but he can't 'calibrate' an apology to Sgt. Crowley.

Obama whines that 'cooler heads should have prevailed' but cooler heads did in fact prevail when the cops cuffed the screaming loser and drove him to the station (although a little tasing would've been nice).

Anyway, that's...
My Two Cents...

No, the POTUS is supposed to be above reflexively “siding with a friend” in matters such as this.

“While it is still not easy to be a black man in America”

And as long as you keep whipping the dog, the wounds from the whipping will never heal. The race baiters know this and rely on it to the continuing advancement of their agenda. The problem is that liberals are so used to the beatings that they have resorted to self flagilation in order to keep the bleeding from stopping because they assume it is the state or normalcy.

The main problem with President Obama’s nationally televised comment about Cambridge Police Sgt. James Crowley had less to do with race and justice than it did with giving us something else to focus on instead of the fact he his answers to all of the Health Care questions were contradicting each other and made no sense at all. The reporters who got to ask the questions were hand picked in advance along with their pre-submitted questions. The fact the the final question had to do with race was no accident...The media coverage on this instead of health care has been 3 to 1 since it happened. Even here on FR, we have become obsessed with it. In the mean time, Nancy and her subcommittees have been hard at work without the public attention they love to avoid.

Nice summation.

Cambridge was the location where TOTUS accumulated 17 unpaid parking tickets for nineteen years. He is still hacked off that he had to pay the outstanding fines and late fees in order to clear his record for the campaign.

The comments to the WaPo are somewhat enlightening, though not surprising.

On one hand, by using the Presidential pulpit to highlight this story, obama has created a teaching opportunity for race relations to advance and improve.

But, on the other hand, obama's own racial prejudice is what is really highlighted and his racial prejudice is shared by a large number of Americans, as the posters to the editorial reveal. obama has made race relations even worse due to his own prejudice and foolishly speaking before knowing all the facts.

What is missing for many of the editorial's posters is the evidence of what actually took place. Any and all recordings of that incident need to be released, if they haven't been already, for mass public consumption.

Many will only see/hear what they want to, but an understanding beyond "he said vs he said" is needed otherwise the tired, old, outdated racial stereotypes, made worse by obama's racial profiling references, will worsen.

It's too bad obama doesn't have better judgment or Sgt. Crowley's racial awareness. obama has unnecessarily tarnished a good man's reputation and made life more difficult for LEOs everywhere. So much for hope and change...

He can ‘side with a friend’ all he wants, he just shouldn’t at a National Press Conference.

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Down here in the “Cradle of the Confederacy” in a section that is nearly fifty percent black it is not easy being a WHITE man. Any observed preferences go to the black person, not the white. Stick your head in any government office and you will have to search diligently to find pale skin, this cannot be by accident.

Amazing that a “black” president who is not black was greatly aided in his election by a black woman who is one of the richest people on the planet and in fact if everything about him had been the same except that he had been a blue eyed man who naturally had skin as white as Michael Jackson, who is currently being deified as an icon of “black” America, would never have had even the slightest chance of being elected is now making comments about discrimination suffered by “black” Americans.

I would estimate that a black woman who has even a very basic education has about ten times greater likelihood of finding employment than most white males in my area right now.

I ask in all seriousness, is modern America wackier than anything Charles Dodgson ever imagined or what?

BTTT! You said it!

Obama whines that 'cooler heads should have prevailed'

And our president could have led by example, instead of adding to the fray. It was one of his least presidential, most incendiary moments.

Not according to many of the comments. Irrationality is so great now that I don’t see how this does not devolve into some sort of civil war. Obama’s legions are truly nuts.
