A Teaching Moment (Prof Gates is O's Waterloo)

It’s starting to look like Harvard professors Henry Louis “Skip” Gates Jr. and Charles Ogletree, the Rev. Al Sharpton, and President Barack Obama picked the wrong white cop to mess with, to paraphase Skip.

It’s not just that Sgt. James Crowley has a backbone.

Boston Herald: Crowley teaches the racial profiling class at a local police academy, in partnership with a black officer. That’s on top of his tortured history as the cop who lost Celtics star Reggie Lewis, something that haunts him 16 years later, after he tried desperately trying to keep that prominent black man alive in an intense mouth-to-mouth resuscitation session. Boston Herald again.

It’s getting a little awkward. Turns out Crowley might not be some lunkheaded Irish bigot cop after all. It’s looking like he might be the kind of white cop … if it is actually permissible for white men to be cops in post-racial America … that Gates, Obama, etal, might consider a paragon, an example for all.

I predict when the tapes come out they will back up Sgt Crowley and paint Prof Gates in a very bad light.

The much bigger point is that this incident may turn out to be a watershed moment in Obama's Presidency. His polls have been going south and this incident will likely exarcerbate that greatly. The approval or Obama the 'man' has always been greater than approval for his policies. This incident will likely erode his personal popularity much more than the MSM realize.

The liberal elite and many minorities have an intrinsic distrust of law enforecement, and the 'rush to judgement' in branding Sgt Crowley a racist was a huge blunder by the MSM. Watching Chuck Todd on MSNBC this morning was very enlightening. He said Obama had been 'prepped' before the news conference that he 'might' asked about the Prof Gates incident. He was prepped, but without the 'facts'. For him to answer the question with a charge that the Cambridge Police 'acted stupidly' was one on the biggest in many of his blunders thus far as President.

Todd said that 'privately the White House wished he had not used the word 'stupid'. That is the biggest understatement of the year, because using a term like that indicted police officers everywhere. The average law abiding citizen, seeing the real facts of the case a few days later, is siding with Sgt Crowley by a huge margin.

As Abe Lincoln once said "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt." Obama, a supposed student of history, obviously doesn't believe that, because by opening his mouth about a topic on which he admitted he did not have the facts, made him a fool.

As these tapes are released and his friend (another of O's friends, Ayers, Wright, and now Gates) is shown to be a self important race hustler, people will realize Obama is not the 'post racial' person he claims to be. He is a pretender to that, but his default position is to use race when he thinks he can use it to his advantage. In this case, speaking about race without knowing the facts has blown up in his face.

The disaffected masses who voted for him who live in flyover country are probably looking at him in another light today, and I do not beleive his personal popularity will ever recover from this wound. This is Obama's Waterloo, even though he still not realize the grievous wound he has suffered and continues to go out and defend the indefensible.

Someone might try it, but don’t you think the glaring white light of publicity will help prevent it?

This was stupid on many levels. First, the POTUS has no business commenting on a local police matter. It’s undignified. Bush would have had the good sense to deflect the question. Second, it’s politically stupid. The press conference was supposed to be about Obama selling his health care plan. Yet, this is the big story that everyone is talking about. Obama stepped all over his health care message and wrecked what might have been his last chance to sell his plan to the public.

I sure hope Crowley hasn't authored any non-fiction books about police work.

TV has done a real disservice to the understanding of someone suffering full heart failure like Lewis did. Chances of survival are really not good, yet it happens all the time on TV, so we've come to expect it in real life.

ABC says Crowley is considering legal action of his own.

How long will it take for the lefties to aim their slime machine on the cop?
Soon all the leftist pundits will be ripping him to shreds.

***Correction... that should be fiction... not non-fiction. (A subtle reference to the hit job they did on Mark Furman.)

I read on internet yesterday that during Obama’s two year stint at Harvard he acquired 17 parking tickets and paid off two. In 2007 as he was getting into campaign mode, someone paid off the other 15 tickets. I haven't seen anything further.

If that proves true, it shows he has an unfavorable history with the Cambridge PD, and gives us a clue into Obama’s inner thoughts and feelings toward law enforcement and authority.

I wrote in another thread that this may be the catalyst that opens the eye of a few blinded dems who are beginning to suffer. It is difficult for me to believe that even some liberal dems are not getting filled up to the top with this crap. CNN has turned into the all black-channel-all the time and continuies to shove the racial crap down peoples throats.

Sooner or later, the line will be crossed, and the lib dems that put Obama in place will leave in droves. All it will take is a few to start the tide, and then it turns into a flood of departing supporters.

I do not think there will be a Mark Furhman moment, but you can bet the POTUS has the FBI looking through Sgt Crowley’s backround for just such dirt to pile on him. They are desperate by now because they realize each time Obama speaks about this, he is only making things worse.

The polls out next week I think will show a Marked decline in Barry’s popularity. Even the MSM apologists are having a hard time defending O’s ‘acting stupid’ comment.

Yeah, he just went on and on and on about it, putting his resentment of white people on display, insinuating his Secret Service would shoot him. There was never a better example of Who Obama Is than we saw Wednesday night. A mental and moral lightweight with a chip on his shoulder. God help us.

"Crowley teaches the racial profiling class...in partnership with a black officer. That’s on top of his tortured history as the cop who lost Celtics star Reggie Lewis...(a) prominent black man..."

This could only get better if it were revealed that Crowley had been happily married to a black woman for the past 20 years...

PTSD is common among first responders who give CPR.

The guilt is intense.

Hard to explain, not completely rational, but very real.

This Cop has my admiration, my respect, and my full support.

(Even if he is a lib, in fact, that makes his story even stronger!)

Seems the racial profiling is coming from the left. They figured the police officer as some big Irish cop like in the movies, but instead he was a sensitive liberal type.
