I'm 'Absolutely Gobsmacked'.
See it's okay again, so, start bringing this up in casual converstations and see how it goes. Also makes an interesting "ice breaker" and a "great pickup line". Be the first on your block to try this out ...
I feel a sense of accomplishment and, dare I say, greatness, when my wife says that. :)
Love Susan Boyle...
She had a makeover! She looks nice.
The picture is quite pretty.
I think I’ve heard Mark Steyn use the term.
America’s got Talent had a very good interview with her last night. She looked good and came across very collected and very nice.
We were out to a riverside concert last evening so watched no TV
Thanks for the comments about her interview. She’s certainly been in my prayers. Her beautiful voice, her fragile psyche.
I’d like to be adrift on the calm blue ocean but first I have to know what Gobsmacked means.
I think her phraseology, new looks and interviews are great, but I wish I could hear her SING again!
She had a makeover! She looks nice. I liked her from the beginning but he is like me, we can clean up nice.
I use this phrase every year when teaching my 7th graders—learned it from some of my British students when teaching overseas. I personally was gobsmacked when I heard the comment O made last night regarding Prof. Gates and the way the Cambridge police acted. Totally gobsmacked!
Frank McCourt uses the phrase in his two books “Angelas Ashes” and “Tis”. Once you’ve read it once you are not likely to forget it. Growing up Irish in the Bronx will well acquaint you with this and other unusual utterings.
I thought her little bump and grind at the start of her interview with Simon Cowell was ‘cheeky’.
She’s quirky but adorable and I loved her voice. She has a quaint charm.
Have pre-ordered her CD from Amazon.
“Let this thread be a refuge for those suffering Obama fatigue ... Please post only things that will cause those of us on the verge of our daily panic attack to feel we are ‘a drift’ on a calm blue ocean ... That is all, end communcation ...”
Will do and Bob’s your uncle...
From the wiki
Born when her mother was 47, Boyle was briefly deprived of oxygen during the difficult birth and was later diagnosed as having learning difficulties. Boyle says she was bullied as a child, and was nicknamed “Susie Simple” at school.
I would call her a classic wallflower - that is, someone with limited social skills and most comfortable within a small group of friends. Not a slam, an observation. While comfortable in her own life, she nonetheless had the courage to take the risk in appearing on a National show.
Now, we are all bit richer for it. She is finishing her first album - one that I hope makes her a lot of dough.
I certainly feel enriched by her. I played that You Tube video at least a dozen times.
She sang to my heart.
I thought of her of Kate Smith meets Patsy Cline. Others may draw their own comparisons, its just that the force of her voice is....remarkable.
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think Gobsmacked means shocked, surprised, etc.
