The UK’s history as the mother ofparliaments has always overshadowed the idea of “defense of the realm” Historically there were times when that defense was invoked against very questionable enemies of the realm. Just take this as one of those times.

“The advertising provisions .. are there to prevent ... the over-commercialisation of the Games”

BWAHAHAHAHA! That’s a good one!

The games passed that mark years ago.

"The advertising provisions.. are there to prevent...the over-commercialisation of the Games." Guess they'd decline this ad. Wouldn't want the Proles getting all worked up.

What is wrong with England???
____________________________________

Watch the movie ‘V for Vendetta’ or read/watch Orwell’s “1984”. There’s your answer.

Also..........the post-war population were more than willing to relinquish ALL rights from what they learned from state propaganda. That’s when socialized healthcare was established. The WW2 generation, to this day, will NEVER complain about ANYTHING the government does. The typical reaction is, “Oh, well. Nevermind.” Just like ‘Emily Latella’.

My in-laws would NEVER question their doctor. His/her opinion was that of G-d’s.

I feel like that is what is going on here. The libs are taking full advantage of a country being attacked and years of war. The population grows tired.......then, BAM.

“They got the government they voted for and deserve.”

This government won’t be there. Parliament expires next spring, there MUST be a General Election no later than June. The odds of Labour getting re-elected are slim to none, and Slim is packing his bags.

This is such bad publicity, the next (probably Tory) government will have no choice but to repeal it.

“What is wrong with England???”

It doesn’t have a Constitution. Never did. Probably never will.

Actually, these books also come to mind when reading about present-day England:

Fahrenheit 451 (the film version seemed awful to me when it was released, now it’s downright frightening)

A Clockwork Orange

It doesn’t have a Constitution.

Somewhat off-topic, but I'm becoming convinced that we don't have one either, except as a false icon to which judges refer in order to subvert reason and issue legislation under some sort of "legal" cover.

I hope there will always be an England, but it's looking grim. I hope there will always be a United States, but it's looking grim.
