Since Democrats have enough votes to shove almost anything they want through the Senate, why suddenly all this talk about seeking "bipartisan reform"?
Because Democrats can't tell the truth. They know socialized medicine will cost enough billions to lower the standard of living for millions of Americans, but they have to pretend they believe otherwise, that it will somehow "save money."
They can't run for re-election in 2010 -- any more than they could run in 2008 -- on an honest platform of, "We'll raise your taxes to the sky and borrow the nation into bankruptcy to get to our real goal, which is a 'single-payer' system that tells people they may just have to die waiting in line, because it turns out tax-funded medicine always creates more demand than we can pay for."
They know they can't win again in 2010 after enacting such a monster unless Republicans sell out, neutering their own ability to tell that straight story on the campaign trail with an added "We told you so." Democrats need at least a token number of Republicans on board their bandwagon.
So why do Republicans go along?
The loyal opposition is not there to get invited to the right cocktail parties, or to enjoy favorable puff pieces in The Washington Post. They're there to vote "no" on socialism, restore the competitive free market wherever they can, call a spade a spade, and dump the freedom-hating redistributionists (now rapidly and unwisely casting aside their sheeps' clothing) as soon as possible.
Time to find a spine.

Purge the RINOs.
Whoa. Every GOP member of the House and Senate needs to read this!

The socialists want control. The rest of us want reform.
BOHICA. pass the lube.
Any republican who supports Cap & Tax, the health care scam or voted for TRAP should not receive funds from the RNC or conservatives.
Or we could tar & feather them.

BTW: The McCain or Die crowd, some here, some who just rely on talk radio, swore this could never happen, “NEVER”swore Obama would pass ANYTHING if McCain lost.
You check out Obama's prayer for the dead (Health bill) a few minutes ago? Even reporters on MSNBC are going after his lame performance now.

NO.
With Lugar leading the way out of the Senate, there are sure to be others to follow the “leader”.
Cornyn and Steele are already sending money to such traitors.
Except for the few RINOs (Collins+Snow) most elected republicans including McCain believe bringing down Obama (like now) is their best hope for 2010 as history has shown in 1993+1994 and with dems bringing down Bush 2006+2008. That means few deals. Plus Pelosi makes it impossible to get Republican votes +deals.
Be fearful if republicans ever get power because they will sell us out on dime again to ‘get things done’.
In the previous reply I meant “the McCain win or Die crowd claimed the MSM media would never turn on democrats” And after about 6 months they are ripping dems on Health care like 1993.
The McCainbots said the same thing to me. It's not that the media is virtuous, but Bush is long gone and not news any more.
RE :”..but Bush is long gone and not news any more.”
This is what they missed and even worse for dems they got the magic 60th seat just after the honeymoon was over, gridlock started, the polls were dropping, and the free money is gone. Unlike the last two elections they cant demand a bigger majority from voters, They have to get things done, but are terrified to raise taxes without Republican cover. Cherish this rare point in history, after 8+6=14 years (not since 94) Democrats finally get blamed.
If McCain was in he would cut deals AND get blame.
If McCain won last year, I have no doubt the media will be constantly saying that a depression is just around the corner. McCain’s approval ratings would probably be in the low 30s. Knowing McCain, he would dump Palin as his Veep and replace her with Joe Lieberman to show how he is looking for bi-partisan solutions.
