Cronkite Was a Leftist, Not a Liberal

“I suppose in all honesty, I’m a liberal,” said the late Walter Cronkite in a snippet of a 1996 interview that Chris Matthews played last night on his program Hardball. “But I would like to define liberal,” Cronkite continued. “I think that the great problem with this label is it has been seriously misused for political purposes.” (Snip) Cronkite saw “liberal” as a broad term meaning essentially a admixture of everything good, kind, sweet, and fuzzy. And in that regard, he didn’t know what he was talking about ...

As used in contemporary U.S.A., the term “liberal” means almost exactly the opposite of what it originally meant.

“Conservative” doesn’t even mean what it used to mean. Who amongst modern conservatives wants to keep things the way they are? The way things are going, “conservatives” will be advocates of radical change within 3 years.

Modern left-liberalism is generally warm and fuzzy. It’s a Disney-esque view of the world. All we have to do is wish that we want something and it is so. Forget about responsibility. Give everyone everything they need...and want.

It’s the warmth and fuzziness which attracts many. Of course, it’s illusory, but as a political reality, and one which threatens what shreds of our liberty remain, it is oh so real.

Though there is an undercurrent of guilt, of angst. While strawmen serve as enemies for the left, ultimately a fair amount of their angst is turned inward. You must feel bad about what you worked for because someone else may not have as much. You must atone for your environmental impact. You must apologize for actions of others of your same race, gender, faith, etc...though that is all you share with them.

The only thing that makes me wonder is why the population isn’t more leftist. Mass media, public education, and entertainment all spew this nutty public religion 24/7/365 to a stupified populace. I guess there remains some flicker of hope for liberty in this country.

I want a piece of Cronkite’s multi-millons of dollars. It would only be “fair”.

That is true! Why is the left so afraid of people like Palin and Rush and Savage and try to destroy them at every turn. Truth has a special ring to it and can be recognized eventually, I think.

I wouldn’t be throwing Savage in with conservatives like Rush and Governor Palin, Savage hates them both and savage is just weird, self serving and hypocritical, behind the scenes he supports leftists.

I was practicly raised on Cronkite’s news every night at 6. After being shown the truth of hard work and America’s great ability to reward such, I determined this guy was losing his way. That was a number of years ago.

Glad you figured it out, some never did....Thank you for your service in the Air Force...One of my son's spent 9 years in the AF...He was a jet mechanic...He went in at the end of the Carter Adm. and talked about how they could never get more than 1/2 of the planes off the ground at any time due to no parts except from other planes...What a big difference when Reagan came in...He said we quit scavenging one plane to put another in the air....Elections matter...Democrats always decimate the military and Repub. have to build it up again...Same with Clinton, Bush build it up now that idiot in Washington is raping it again..

I traveled around the military to see family. First stop Fayetteville, NC. Second stop Great Falls, NC. Drug use was rampant. My own training site at Keesler had wide open prostitution and beer machines being tossed out dorm windows during drunken rampages. The Democrats have had this crap in store for quite awhile. Reagan stopped all that crap.

Savage attacts progressive ideals that are destroying this country, just like Rush and Palin. They are all important. Savage has been attacked by the media and politicians relentlessly.....

Savage has absolutely taken on the left's policies, like immigration, homosexualization, feminization of our children, etc. etc. He is actually more effective on these issues for the blue collar workers and men. I know construction workers who never listen to Rush, don't know much about Palin, but recognize a lot of the truth in what Savage says and idolize him. They cheer and yell when they listen to him.

They relate to him because he doesn't sound like he has a PHD (when it was hard to get one). They recognize his love for this country, his love for the Founding Fathers, his hatred for fascism, etc. In many ways, he says the same thing as all conservatives but he goes a step further and actually makes known his rage.

I actually think he is very entertaining as well as knowledgeable. I never am bored while listening to him. Uneducated people have an easy time understanding what he means because he has a special talent in breaking down complicated ideas and points out the illogical ideas of the left. The left hates him for it because he is exposing their ugliness to the masses who the left has duped for decades.

Savage is a phony and rarely makes sense, he doesn’t move the issues nor shape anything political, he merely vents to an angry crowd that wants to vent and hear venting.

Rush Limbaugh is a movement leader that has played a very major role in bringing millions of people into conservativtism, he shapes the national debate and is credited with playing a major role in elections like the 1994 election,

Governor Palin I shouldn’t even have to explain, she very well may become President of the United States and already has influence on a great scale and is a movement leader.

Savage is just a shock jock radio guy that vents and throws in a lot of political stuff, even many of his fans here admit that they just listen for the rambling weirdness.

Savage isn’t a leader and doesn’t seem to have any national influence on anything, he has his audience and that is it.

Savage makes incredible sense. I don't know what you are talking about. I know people from all walks of life, those who are highly educated and some who flunked out of community college, etc.

I have talked with many people extensively on a lot of issues and they understand exactly what is happening to this country and it is all because of Michael Savage. They live in Oregon and all papers are so utterly liberal that they should be kneeling at the altar of Zero, but NO they see through his marxist, muslim adoration and his hatred and jealousy for the Founding Fathers, the Constitution of the US, and white European Christians (and Jews)--all because of Savage.

Even teenagers in Oregon are listening to Savage and he is educating people on the homosexual agenda, feminazi agenda, Marxist, socialist agenda, etc. Liberalism is so invasive in the educational system and media that anyone who can put a dent in it is extremely important. Savage is very logical and fun to listen to because he so passionately loves what is good about this country.

He is too consistent to be a phony in his beliefs......on culture, borders and language. He is more consistent than anyone I have ever listened to and hasn't changed for 15 years or however long I have been listening.

You should listen to him. Has Rush ever had the English House debate about him?

Over the years I have listened to Savage a lot, many, many times I have tried to see if there is something more to him, thinking that I must just be catching off periods but it is always the same.

It is just mindless venting and rambling.
