Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and California's legislative leaders have agreed on a plan to slice $26 billion from the states recession-ravaged budget, cuts that would hit the elderly and poor the hardest.
The governor and leaders from both parties announced the compromise late Monday after more than five hours of closed-door talks. If the agreement survives its run through both houses of the Legislature, it would provide temporary relief to an epic fiscal crisis that has captured national attention...

IOW the poor, elderly, orphans, widows, downtrodden — their lot will be the same as in pretty much every other state in the Union.
Lets see if they pull funding for the illegals. Yeah, that’ll happen.
I sure HOPE the nation is watching! Because this is ALL OF OUR FUTURES if we allow Democrats and RINO’s run this country into the ground with all these damned entitlements.
All the “cuts” are future.
(probably won’t really happen)
The money all comes from theft from local government; meaning that we get punished again for not voting to be taxed to death.
Typical MSNBC drivel. “It will hit the elderly and poor hardest.” NO ONE in this country is without food, housing, medical care or other necessities if they want them. Another attempt by the nut job commies at MSNBC to scare the ignorant into throwing themselves into socialism.
Bet the legislature doesn’t have the guts to pass this!
:::::
Probably not — since OVER $10 BILLION PER YEAR of our money is squandered on their illegal Mexican voting base in Taxifornia. The state could solve its money problems if the DemoRats would run their illegal voters out of state — and the Repubs might have a chance to bring back some conservative sanity....I know, I dream a lot. But I am old enough to have seen Taxifornia when it WAS a conservative, well-managed state with a responsible legislature — then liberal blight hit, and that was the end of Taxifornia’s leadership in the nation.
I am suspicious.
“No new taxes”
How many increased fees? Especially mandatory ones. Colorado just raised the minimum auto lisence fee which is mandatory if you want to drive an auto.
Call me when the Arnuld has a firm grip on the ink pen and is signing the bill.... This agreement is DOA.
Those are not the general population of the elderly but rather the elderly who rarely worked in their lives and the poor are usually people who chose to be poor because they never wanted to work. Why work when they are getting free money from the tax payers? We cannot punish 80% of the population for the sake of the 20% who chose to be parasites.
women and minorities hardest hit!
its sounds better to say elderly and poor hit hardest than to say, overpaid state workers, non-working salary earner, politicans
and don't forget the widows & orphans... shezzzzzzzzzzzzz...can't the Lefties write one piece of news without editorializing...
This country PROSPERED for hundreds of years with gov’t assistance...I “think” we can do it again!
they can START by eliminating welfare to illegals!!! that's TEN BILLION A YEAR IN CA!!!
Pretty amazing charts here:
http://www.ebudget.ca.gov/pdf/BudgetSummary/SummaryCharts.pdf
The state is raising education spending by $4.7 billion over the previous year (see the chart with all proposed budget solutions), and a decrease of $1.6 billion in all other spending (a 2.8% decrease from 2008-2009).
With total spending close to $100 billion, its hard for me to see why they are having so much trouble and making such drastic cuts, unless they KNOW the real revenue numbers will come in much worse than their fairy-tale budget...

>>women and minorities hardest hit!<<’
No one saw that one coming!
From the article:
>>Personal income fell this year in California for the first time in 70 years, leading to a 34 percent plunge in income tax revenue during the first half of the year.<<
That would be the giant sucking sound of people who pay most of the taxes, individuals and employers, stampeding out of town. I wanted to do it but it doesn’t make fiscal sense.
When a state says “you work too hard so we will take the results of your efforts at the point of a gun” it is saying “we don’t want you or your kind here.”
They got what they wanted — all the revenue leaving town.
auto license fees were already increased in CA, doubled.
American citizens are being hurt while California continues to offer free benefits to non-taxpaying non-residents.
And can be doubled again. Of course the illegals will continue to drive illegally. Here in Colorado we had some problems where I work about 3 years ago. People were clipping the little year tags (and part of the plate itself) off of vehicles and steaming them loose, applying them to their own plates. Instant legal car at a glance.
Once again, it pushes the budget mess into the future... borrowed money has to be repaid... usually with interest.
I have a very simple question for anyone who lives in California.
Is public spending in FY 2010 going to be more, less, or the same than in FY 2009?
Calif. budget deal: No new taxes, many big cuts, a lot of smoke and mirrors
