Behind “The Public Option”
I’m still in Boston, and was handed a flyer in the downtown area near Boston Common. The flyer announces a rally Thursday that will be held to support a “public option” for Obama’s healthcare program. Of course, in my view, the public option will lead to the killing off of the old and holding back of care for quadriplegics, for starters.

As Peter Schiff speculates:

My guess is that the government provider will mis-price its policies on the low side, pushing employers to dump private sector insurance for the taxpayer-subsidized alternative. Such a system will further distort health care pricing and, ultimately, make a bad situation intolerable.
Of note is that the rally is being sponsored pretty much by union groups. The flyer lists the sponsors as:

SEIU Massachusetts State Council
United Electrical Workers Northwest Region
AFT Massachusetts

As PEU report has alluded to in a comment and as von Pepe notes in a comment, part of what is going on is union building:

I am convinced that the main goal here is to unionize the healthcare workers (most government employees are union e.g. police, fire, teachers, auto, etc.)

The real goal is dependency and voting blocks to consolidate his power.

Pg 149 Lines 16-24 ANY Emplyr w payroll 400k & above who does not prov. pub opt. pays 8% tax on all payroll.

Assume that the actual cost of the ObamaCare plans is 9%. What will happen is that every business will do the arithmetic and dump their plans and pay the tax. Then every individual (who is not poor) will pay for their own individual govt plan or face IRS punitive taxes.

So the government gets paid twice for the same health benefits - once by businesses and again by individuals. What a deal for Uncle Sam, eh?

OK - We are in an era of 'Transparent Government' I was told; so I have a couple of questions:

Who dreams up these conditions and clauses that are placed in these bills? It cannot be the politicians because they admit that they have not seen the wording before voting, and weasels that they are, they are not clever enough.

Who actually drafts the wording of these bills: is there some vast typing pool under Congress churning it out?

Who actually runs this country?

The Congress criters and the Pretender seem to be just window dressing.

I just highlighted that whole thing and sent it out in an email. I’m getting so fed up with DC I’m willing to alienate a LOT of my lib friends. I highlighted some of the most incredible things in red, especially the part about special needs kids, as I am the co-guardian of a severely retarded older brother, who needs 24 hour care. Like someone else said, THIS IS WAR! This will KILL an economy already on life support. I cannot believe these twits in DC are actually putting this crap in this bill!

Notice something that is missing from that 1018 page bill? Tort reform. 1018 pages and not one single word about it.

Nothing about limiting ambulance-chasing laywers from getting egregious punitive awards or limiting the cost of malpractice insurance.
