BOSTON Somewhere along an industrial stretch of river pocked with rotting piers and towering salt piles north of Boston lies the answer to one of the great riddles of the Revolutionary war.
Where is the final resting place of the British schooner, the HMS Diana?
The river known as Chelsea Creek separates the city of Chelsea from the East Boston neighborhood of Boston. Today the river is plied by oil tankers and is home to a landscape dotted with the city's iconic tripledeckers.
But more than 200 years ago, the creek was the site of one of the earliest and least-remembered engagements of the Revolutionary War. The Battle of Chelsea Creek was also the first naval engagement of the American Revolution.
For two days in May 1775, British Redcoats and members of the Continental Army battled up and down the waterway.

RevWar/Colonial History/General Washington ping list...
The American Revolution was fought by a bunch of heavily armed Christian guys to overthrow a government that pushed taxation without representation.
Mass finds the ship they will destroy it.
All American Revolution artifacts need to be stripped from the Blue States.
Great!
That state, like many others, is broke; yet they are going to waste tax dollars on finding and “preserving” the remains of a BRITISH warship.
The arrogance of those feeding at the public trough is breathtaking.
Geez...this is part of our heritage...43k bucks for this is a drop in the ocean.
Knowing Mass, they’ll salvage the ship THEN tax the ship into the next millenium.
AND tax the unfortunate residents of the state for the ship’s upkeep and, given Coupe Duval’s predilections, for the occasional orgies hosted upon said ship.
They should do a search for the lost MA Republican Party, last seen being Captained by Slick Willard before it was scuttled en route to the Presidency.
“Geez...this is part of our heritage...43k bucks for this is a drop in the ocean.”
That is probably the initial cost.
Care to ponder the environmental extra costs? Disrupting the sediment that will be found? (and odor remediation)
Probably will involve State and Federal EPA oversite.
Is that area considered a waterway under the auspice of Homeland Security?
Well, maybe they’ll find Mayor Curley’s desk or Babe Ruth’s piano.
State governments are not interested in history, preservation or culture. They are only interested in agenda.
Buddies of mine researched and located an American ship from the War of 1812 that was torched while moored in a small creek in Western New York. With metal detectors they found a cannon in the mud and brought it up. A few weeks later state workers showed up to confiscate the cannon and put it away in some state closet to never be seen again. My buddies even had to pay a fine for disturbing a historical site. It’s now been about 25 years and there have been no further mention of anything and not one person has done anything further with the site except to put in a paved path for fishermen to have easier access.
‘The arrogance of those feeding at the public trough is breathtaking.’
I’d echo that statement, but I can’t catch my breath long enough to do so.
Let’s hope they succeed.

Really surprised by the know-nothing comments on this thread against this enterprise. I would have expected these at the Daily Kos, but not here. Oh well...trolls on an American RevWar thread??
They inspired my comment!
I received this book as a b-day present. The author co-wrote Gotham (which I keep starting but not finishing). This one is well worth reading.
I did not know this book...I will order it. Thanks for letting me know about it.
