In the health debate, liberals sing Hari Krishnas to the "public option" -- a new federal insurance program like Medicare -- but if it's good enough for the middle class, then surely it's good enough for the political class too? As it happens, more than a few Democrats disagree.
On Tuesday, the Senate health committee voted 12-11 in favor of a two-page amendment courtesy of Republican Tom Coburn that would require all Members and their staffs to enroll in any new government-run health plan. Yet all Democrats -- with the exceptions of acting chairman Chris Dodd, Barbara Mikulski and Ted Kennedy via proxy -- voted nay.
In other words, Sherrod Brown and Sheldon Whitehouse won't themselves join a plan that "will offer benefits that are as good as those available through private insurance plans -- or better," as the Ohio and Rhode Island liberals put it in a recent op-ed. And even a self-described socialist like Vermont's Bernie Sanders, who supports a government-only system, wouldn't sign himself up.

Right on, jv! Their hypocrisy is amazing. Good to see you and hope all is well with you. All is good here. :)
Nothing is too good for royalty.
What I was thinkin’ Death never obstructs the democrats ability to vote...
Careful, now, let the word get out that it’s unconstitutional will make all the dems sign onto it for sure...
Correct, If they blatantly ignore the constitution angd we get no protection from the courts it will be time to start stringin’ ‘em up from the lamposts in DC
they should not even have the option of signing onto it.
if they think it is good enough for us it should be good enough for them.
If they did then we would know at least we would get Botox injections like Pelosi does!

Senators prefer the insurance they have.
Hi Congresswoman
If this story about your colleagues is true, why are they forcing the American Citizens to have a plan that is not the same as yours?
All I want is the same plan you and your staff have!
I would like to know which way you are going to vote on the health care bill.
I am a concerned citizen that would like to know that my family and I can be assured of the same health care coverage that you have.
Please assure me that you will vote to have the President, his Cabinet, the Senate, and all Congressmen and Congresswomen, and the American public to have the same plan.
Please vote NO on the health care bill if you do not intend to give the American Citizens the same health care provisions that you and your colleagues have.
Thank you from a concerned American Citizen that believes in equality for All.
Just sent this to my local crime boss!
You’re welcome : )
Great letter!
I’m going to send a version of that to my three leftist Cogresscritters in the morning.
I believe they have private health insurance paid for by taxes (ie, Blue Cross).
Typical elitist mentality, and it illustrates very well why socialism is a failure. The so-called “elite” believe they are better than and deserve better than the people. They know this government health care is going to suck, but as long as it doesn’t affect them, it’s ok.
Ping — our hero Tom Coburn tries again to right the sinking ship of state.
Ted Kennedy via proxy, what a crock of excrement. Show up in person with full mental capacity or you can’t vote......oh wait....n/m.
Ping!
Is it time yet? Probably past time Claire.
This should come as no surprise at all, after all in the old Soviet Union it was common knowledge that the members of the Politburo and the Communist Party upper hierarchy went to ‘special’ clinics and doctors that were unavailable to the proletariat and those at the bottom of the medical food chain.
We’re just watching history repeat itself.
They want to improve the health of the American people?
Just mandate that ALL Americans shall receive the SAME level of care and benefits that are available to every Senator and Congressional Representative in the Congress!
THAT would be gold plated coverage for all!
Oh wait, our ruling class says ‘NYET’, they just want to ration health care for us peasants of the proletariat now don’t they?
