Debbie Schlussel versus Sarah Palin (multiple articles)
debbieschlussel.com | 2008-2009 | Debbie Schlussel

Posted on 07/18/2009 4:29:37 PM PDT by EveningStar

I'm not a regular reader of Debbie Schlussel nor am I a fan (she seems a bit low class at times), so I just became aware of her criticism of Governor Palin.

If you scan the archives of her site debbieschlussel.com you will see that she was an early supporter of Sarah Palin. That makes her criticism all the more interesting.

Here are ten articles from Debbie's site. In the first one, she is still a Palin supporter, but also criticizes her for her choice of baby names. Beginning with the second article, she really begins to tear into her.

Give me a menu of available candidates standing for election and I'll let you know. If Palin is the best available choice then that's where my vote goes. I have never said I wouldn't vote her but she isn't going to be my first choice either and I will not stick my fingers in my ears and yell, “la la la la la la la” when people voice doubts or criticisms of her.

You’re not allowed to publicly criticize a conservative hero. Our heroes are perfect. They do nothing wrong - it’s all the fault of the MSM and the RINOs.
I was unwilling to just reflexively talk about "bias in the media" without a clear intellectual foundation for understanding the phenomenon. But such a foundation now exists, here.

The phenomenon is real and, on theoretical grounds, is only to be expected. It is more properly called "the natural tendency of monopoly journalism towards self promotion." The monopoly characteristic of journalism is, quite simply, the ineluctable conclusion to be drawn from the association of so-called "MSM" outlets which openly calls itself "the Associated Press."

How about appearing in People Magazine glorifying their daughter’s single motherhood or showing on the talk show circuit to air out their family’s business on baby daddy?
RULE 4: "Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules." If the rule is that every letter gets a reply, send 30,000 letters. You can kill them with this because no one can possibly obey all of their own rules.
I actually ran a troll check on you because your cynicism made you sound like one. Instead of a "liberal" you seem to be on the licentious side of libertarianism. Which of course sounds a lot better from an adolescent than from a geriatric perspective. Because the mature perspective takes account of the effects of policy on children, hence on culture in the long run.

FR calls itself a "conservative" site, but of course there really is no such thing as conservatism in America. What passes for it (say rather, is tarred with the label of it) is constitutionalism, which is conservative in the sense that it calls for fixed procedures for changing law, as opposed to the radicalism of a Barak Obama/Nancy Pelosi/Harry Reid/Sonia Sotomayor. But the Constitution itself explicitly promotes progress and is therefore not conservative (and if conservatism ever becomes a positive label in America, Madison Avenue will stop plastering NEW! on the packaging of products. I'm not holding my breath for THAT).

Tell me who is running and I will talk to you about it then. I could say I like my neighbor down the street as a candidate for a host of reasons but if he/she isn’t a candidate then what’s the point? And, the way the Republican party is operating it’s likely that a sex scandal or some other not so socially conservative behavior will likely tank them.

I ascribe to the school of thought that says hold ourselves and our leaders to a higher standard and not just in relation to what the other side does. If someone talks it then they need to walk it otherwise they are nothing but posers and the Republican party is full of them. And yes, I trend libertarian because I want less government, not more and I also happen to like the Constitution.

Of course it would, if you want to be chosen as their candidate by conservatives then you can't make yourself unacceptable to conservatives.

I wasn’t denying media bias. I’m all too aware of its existence. I was addressing the fact that many conservatives are unwilling to believe that their heroes aren’t perfect. If something bad happens to the hero, it must be someone elses fault.

What Governor Palin faces is liberal bias.

When you find a Palin critic here at the social conservative site of FR, take a look at the posters history and almost every time you will find that the poster is liberal on social issues and is warm to liberals like Giuliani and Mitt Romney.

“I was unwilling to just reflexively talk about “bias in the media” without a clear intellectual foundation for understanding the phenomenon.”

My foundation for knowing that it happens is my own empirical observations, beginning in the early 1980s. My intellectual foundation for understanding it, developed slowly and laboriously since the early 1980s, is this:

All leftist thought, from the limousine liberalism of a George Clooney to the mass murders of Mao, Stalin, or Pol Pot, is of and from Satan. It is a contaminant in the human cognosphere, not a natural component of it.

Your essay goes back as far as Jefferson, but something else had happened by the 1930s. I don’t know when it started, but by the ‘30s the media had been infiltrated by leftists. Whether they called themselves liberals, Trotskyites, democrats, Bolsheviks, or any other deceptive label, the source, principals, and directionality of their worldviews were the same.

Then, at some point that I cannot precisely distinguish, the media and academia became monolithically leftist. This to a degree that professors at schools of “journalism” wrote that they couldn’t understand why anyone not a lefist would even want to be a journalist.

In the period following these events, what we see is not “the natural tendency of monopoly journalism towards self promotion.” That may have been true in earlier eras, but what we see now is the *unnatural*compulsion* of Satan’s catamites to pursue his agenda.

You forgot one little thing, the point of the argument - neglected children.

That’s okay, the parents forget them too as they both pursue their own careers and the all important shattering of the glass ceiling.

I didn’t post #147.

If you want to talk about me because you cannot refute the fact that Palin is a Feminist who neglects her own children, start a new thread to trash me personally. Knock yourself out.

In spiritual terms of course the tendency of people to fail to bridle their own tongues is sin, sure enough. But it is such a consistent tendency in fallen human nature as to scarcely require comment. It is in the nature of someone who talks for a living to promote himself.

We’re not talking about “a consistent tendency in fallen human nature,” nor are we talking about self promotion. We are talking about the promotion of the agenda of the left.
