State job losses accelerated in June, as Texas employers slashed payrolls by 40,600, according to data released Friday by the Texas Workforce Commission.

The Texas unemployment rate rose to 7.5 percent in June, the highest rate in more than 16 years.

The state's payrolls shrank by 2.6 percent during the first six months of the year, a slightly faster rate of decline than the 2.5 percent fall in the nation as a whole.

Last month, the trade, transportation and utilities category, which includes the retail business, shed 21,700 jobs. Payrolls shrank by 11,900 jobs in professional and business services.

Manufacturing employment fell by 10,300 jobs, while the construction industry shed 10,200 jobs.

In the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the jobless rate rose to 8.2 percent compared to 7.1 percent in May.

Lucky you. Not for just the possibility of finding a job, but most of all for coming to Texas.

“AMARILLO-—Amarillo continues to have the lowest unemployment rates in Texas, that’s according to the Texas Workforce Commission. They say our rate sits now at 5.7%. That is up from last April when it sat at 4.1%. Lubbock is second lowest with 6%.”

Many jobs here in West Texas aren’t very high paying, however.

Well, my neighbor, a guy by the name of Ted Nugent, moved to Texas a while back.

Seriously (and yeah, Ted’s old place is close to my place here in Michigan), what is the cost of living like in Austin?

Yes, I know, Austin isn’t really Texas, outside of the Alamo...

Maybe so, but the balmy weather and beautiful mountain forest scenery more than make up for that. ;-)

Think of all the jobs Bambi, Biden, and Geithner SAVED with their stimulatin’!

That’s better! Whistle a HAPPY tune!

“where do the hottest girls live in texas???”

According to my daughter, most of the airmen out at Lackland were pretty hot during her time there in flight school (June, July, August....)

The Alamo is in San Antonio. Otherwise, you're absolutely correct...
