Let's say your situation is this: you are $38 B to $106 B in debt, depending on who does the acounting . Your current budget says you will spend about $12 B more this year than you will take in. What do you do?
If you are an Illinois politician, you create a new capital budget of $31 B. How will you pay for it, since you're already $12 B in the hole?
See here : http://www.thetelegraph.com/news/praised-29068-governor-bill.html
"Illinois will pay for the public works program by selling bonds - in effect, borrowing money and repaying it over 20 or 30 years. The money to repay that debt will come from a variety of taxes and fees, plus a major gambling expansion. Drivers will pay more for licenses and registrations. The tax on beer, wine and hard liquor is going up. Sales tax will be charged on more items, including iced tea."
This being Illinois, this new borrowing and taxing enjoyed broad bipartisan support.
That was yesterday. Today, the Illinois legislature approved a budget. How did it close the budget gap? Mostly by taking on more debt and simply not paying all its bills. In fact, Illinois will simply not pay $3.2 B that it owes state contractors and service providers.
"I'm not going to play this game. This is a prostitution of the process!" shouted Bill Black, Republican of Danville. It's not clear whether he said that before or after he voted for the budget.
Start taxing tea and simply don't pay what you owe. That's the Illinois way. See? It doesn't have to be hard.
Obama will save them, once he has stolen more from the people who earn.
I like Chicago, at least in the spring, summer time, but the political agenda there is just insane.
One alderman wanted to have little bags outlawed because crack dealers use them. Like that would stop the sale of crack. The offered solution was to charge additional taxes on zip locks. LOL.
Is this Sweet Iced Tea or Unsweetened?
Bugs Bunny explains the American Revolution
“Put these tacks on the colony’s tea” - G III
“But Your Majesty, these are Carpet Tacks.” - Lacky
“WELL THEY’RE TEA TAX KNOW! BWA HA BWA HA!” - G III
(ship sails backwards out of Boston Harbor)
“Is this Sweet Iced Tea or Unsweetened?”
Sweet tea ok, Unsweetened, I’ll be upset. During the summer here in Chicagoland, McDonald’s sells large drinks (which includes tea) for one buck. Now it will probably be two bucks. Way to go Illinois. So glad I live in this socialist paradise run completely by Dems. It makes me so blue by default.
Funny thing about taxes on tea, it always comes back.
Liberals never speak in a way which is substantive. They ALWAYS employ expressions and phrases and spout ideas which are as emotional/emotive as possible.
I am sure they do this because firstly, their voter base is usually young people and or, the ill-educated. These people are not very sophisticated thinkers.
Secondly, Liberal politicians have adopted this approach because they do NOT themselves possess an entirely clear or comprehensive grasp of issues and ideas.
In any case, it’s like the man said: Where there is emotion, there is NO substance.” And he was absolutely right!!
next I’m sure will be a “per-flush” tax so they can get you coming and going....
I was in Chicago for a conference last weekend and was stunned to hear the sales tax is 10.25%! I think that is just in the city though while the rest of the state is only 6.25. They must have some surcharge in Chicago itself. Just seems absurdly high. Although I will say the nice touristy areas of the city seem clean and safe so the tax revenue at least is accomplishing something.
That’s nothing...Here in NY...I believe there are 96 new and/or increased taxes. Many are called FEES.
You know what happened the last time they put a tax on tea, right?
Anybody up for going to Chicago in October and having an Iced Tea Party? Lake Michigan will be really cold that time of year, so it sort of would be like iced tea.
I wonder if those who complain about this ever put up any kind of a fight when another leafy consumable was taxed into oblivion: TOBACCO.
A tax on tea. Again.
That’s rich.
100% correct. Ask a lib to explain in exact detail of what they mean, and you will never see such hate from a person. Its a near total emotional involvement, a cult really.
flag, I feel for ya! I was born in IL and raised mid-state. Luckily, my parents defected to Missouri in the 70’s. Maybe they saw the writing on the wall.
