APIA NATIONAL HOSPITAL, SAMOA

090701-N-9689V-004 APIA, Samoa (July 1, 2009) Seabees assigned to Amphibious Construction Battalion (ACB) 1 and Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 1 renovate a building at Apia National Hospital during a Pacific Partnership 2009 engineering civic action project. Apia National Hospital is the primary medical facility for the residents of Upolu Island, Samoa. The Seabees will spend 10 days renovating the hospital's waiting area, conducting roof repairs, and applying non-skid surface to slippery walkways. Pacific Partnership is a humanitarian and civil assistance mission in the Pacific Fleet area of responsibility. This year Pacific Partnership will travel to Oceania, including Kiribati, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands and Tonga. HONORING MEDAL OF HONOR RECIPEINT LT MICHAEL P MURPHY

Murphy's mother, Maureen, left, and his brother John, right, were the special guests of honor at the dedication ceremony of the new Lt. Michael Murphy Combat Training Pool at Officer Training Command Newport. Also attending the dedication and unveiling was Rear Adm. Garry Bonelli, deputy commander, Naval Special Warfare Command, far right, and Rear Adm. Mark Boensel, commander, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic, left. The pool will be used by officer candidates and students at Officer Training Command Newport for swim qualifications. Murphy, a Navy SEAL and Medal of Honor recipient, was killed in action in Afghanistan on June 28, 2005. Murphy was awarded the nation's highest military honor for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty for trying to call for help from an exposed location for his wounded four-man team against superior odds of between 30 to 40 enemy fighters. Actually, there was a power outage yesterday but it was on the other side of town and had nothing to do with the weather.

Someone found a downed power line in their yard.

We've been very fortunate. Not too much in the way but power outages but you never know.

Hopefully, they can fix that transformer immediately. Finding a live wire in the yard must have been scary for the people who found it. Thankfully, no one was hurt.

We were lucky not to lose electric a few days ago. The western part of the Island lost power. By the time the storms got to us they were weakened. Battery operated lap top doesn’t last long for me.
