PHOENIX (AP) -- Prosecutors in Arizona won't file charges against five Mesa police officers for their role in flushing a stillborn fetus down a toilet.
The Maricopa County Attorney's Office determined a crime wasn't committed last month when an officer flushed the 4-inch fetus down a toilet in a motel room.

Officers and Mesa fire personnel responded in June to a Motel 6, where they found a woman had miscarried. One of the officers photographed the fetus, which fire officials reportedly declined to take, then flushed it.

Excepts.....
Mesa fire officials, who also responded to the motel at 336 W. Hampton Ave., have said they will better train its EMS and fire personnel how to better respond to similar calls.
“I believe the fire department is on the right track,” Cota said. “It’s a training issue.”
Officers and Mesa fire EMS personnel responded to the Motel 6 and found the woman had miscarried.
Police reports said officers observed the woman and her boyfriend, who was arrested for an outstanding warrant, engaged in drug activity. Buquo photographed the fetus, which fire officials declined to take, then flushed it.
Mesa fire officials conducted an earlier investigation and previously announced no discipline would be taken against paramedics Arnold Cornejo and Gil Velasquez, and EMTs Scott Crawford and Kevin Strogen.

WHAT?
Our county doesn’t even want us to put bacon grease and vegetable scraps in our kitchen garbage disposals.
WTF?
We can’t post excerpts from AZCentral. Gannett.
ROFLMAO! I bet Cassandra gets a dozen texts from her feminist BFF's about this remark.
I love babies,
Yes, I do,
Boiled, Broiled,
In a stew!

I didn’t post it as a thread. Just as a reply.
That’s OK.
I think.
And what prey tell should they have done? The baby was stillborn. The story doesn’t tell us about the mother ( was she there?). Fire department refused to take the body. Coroner may well have said no as well ( story doesn’t say). I am sure this is not an every day occurence for these guys in blue.
I dunno. The rules have become so convoluted.
Prosecutors dropped charges when it was determined the fetus was bio-degradable. The officers were warned however that excessive flushing is a waste of resources and that next time they should wait until they have two dead babies to get rid of.
Info in post #3 says she was there, with boyfriend, observed doing drugs.
They should have called the coroner.
Jesus Christ.
And I mean that as a plea for mercy, not as blasphemy.
I’d have wrapped it in a paper towel and buried in in my backyard before I’d have deliberately flushed it down the toilet. I mean, come on, that was once a person.
I recognize that many miscarried babies do get flushed every day, but usually this is accidental. Most are not recognizable as human beings by the time they are expelled from the body, and are thrown out with toilet paper, or with the bandages, compresses, and soiled laundry that can accompany a miscarriage. I totally understand how this could happen, and I know that God and the deceased child understand the practical aspects of such situations.
But deliberately flushing a recognizable baby’s body down a motel toilet...? God help us.
Why? So they could throw it out with the medical waste? Hospitals dispose of fetus', spontaneous abortion or otherwise, all the time. There are certainly no legal guidelines and few moral ones.
Not criticizing here, only ignorant.
You don’t know whether they did or not. Article does not specify
