It’s a wonderful thing isn’t it? Government passing along taxpayer dollars to train high tech workers?

Our District 1 Representative David Wu, is attempting to acquire 500 million over 5 years to train high tech workers to learn to write software for the Healthcare industry with the 10,000 by 2010 legislation. Isn’t that just lovely?

Well, not exactly.

(snip)

So, to sum up this insane waste, David Wu is attempting to acquire 500 Million dollars to train people who are already trained and already looking for work but cannot find it, in an industry with no demand for it.

No need for that. If such jobs ever exist, they’ll just import H1Bs or outsource the work to India.

I have never met a single person who ever benefitted from any of this “job retraining” money that they keep spending

Or you can give 10,000 computer geeks $50k each and hope one of them turns out to be a Bill Gates...

You don’t need training to write software, a math or engineering degree will do fine for most.

If you want to be a script kiddie then that’s different from software engineering. Any clown can do that who can read.

Flame proof underwear on.

Why would an American want to relocate to India at Indian wages?

“I never met a single person...”

Actually, I know a couple from when we closed one of our plants a couple years ago. It was actually a good opportunity for those who applied themselves. But, I have to say, overall it was just a big waste of money. My guess is for every one who tried to better themselves, 10 deadbeats rode the system.-—JM

Theu never specify just exactly what those so called “high tech jobs” are. Everybody can’t be a electronics whiz or a rocket surgeon.............

I always get a kick out of Free Trader Globalists....they want so badly to spend tax dollars to “retrain” for jobs that do not exist.

If the job did not leave America in the first place....there would be no need for retraining....

Those who come up with these schemes have no clue as to what is required to create technology. They think anybody can be “trained” (like a monkey) to do any job. Most people hated math in school, and you need a math-oriented brain with logical thinking to solve cutting edge tech problems.

THAT would actually make some sense... but don’t ever expect sense from a Liberal, the Kool-aid has gotten too thick.

You do need the languages, not everyone can code in Java, or .net, or C++ or C# or one of the other languages out there. It’s more an issue of basic business practices in engineering Software, database and networking management. That being said, there are already people available to do these jobs who are fully trained and able. There are simply NO JOBS. I know, my husband is a Software Architect and engineer. And the market for Coders as well as higher up’s like Architects in Oregon right now is next to nil.

LOL

Well, maybe because there are jobs there and they aren’t going to tax their people into oblivion with Cap n Trade?

Just sayin... China and India are looking better for Job Markets than the US is.

You make a good point though lol

Thats true, these coding languages are just that, languages. And they have to be learned like languages. Sure there is some high math in there, but that’s just a part of the language.

The language is mostly procedural and structure ... the beauty comes from the architecture of the program. Under the hood there are a whole lot of similarities.

Agree we don't need training, we need jobs. And who is going to take a risk and start a new company these days. Nobody is going to put risk capital on the line — A concept that is clearly above Colonel Obama’s pay grade and intellectual ability.
