Republican Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma called bluff on the Democrats' support for their own health care bill by challenging his colleagues on the Senate health committee to vote in favor of joining the program once enacted. Mr. Coburn said, "what's good for the goose is good for the gander," and that "if Congress thinks a government-run plan is safe and effective for Americans, they should prove it with enrolling."
All the Republicans on the committee, except for New Hampshire Sen. Judd Gregg, voted for the amendment, but only three of the panel's 13 Democratic caucus member joined them. The 10 others voted "nay," though the amendment thus passed by a 12-11 vote. The Democratic senators who voted against it were Sens. Jeff Bingaman of New Mexico, Sherrod Brown of Ohio, Bob Casey of Pennsylvania, Kay Hagan of North Carolina, Tom Harkin of Iowa, Jeff Merkley of Oregon, Patty Murray of Washington, Jack Reed of Rhode Island and Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island. Sen. Bernard Sanders of Vermont, an independent but a member of the Democratic caucus, also opposed the bill.
Democrats who voted in favor of the amendment were: Sens. Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts, Christopher J. Dodd of Connecticut and Barbara A. Mikulski of Maryland....

I just called every democrat congressman in Minnesota. Not surprising, none of their aides knew their position on House Resolution 615. When I spoke with Ellison’s office, the guy said that we wouldn’t know the congressman’s position until after the vote. I asked him if that seemed reasonable to him? He said no, it’s just the way it works.
I emailed our local political reporter at the ABC affiliate to follow up on their positions and he stated that it wasn’t up to him to pass judgement. Minnesota is so screwed.
I saw it live too, on a direct DOD feed from NASA. It didn’t look real in 1969, I still have my doubts, particularly after “Mythbusters” showed that it could have been staged in a studio.
They /sarc tag is a clue. If I don’t use it, I’m serious.
This amendment passed in the Senate Committee, so it will likely be in the bill that goes to the floor, and we can see what happens then. I suspect it will be stripped out before the full Senate vote, by an amendment offered on the floor. So we will see who offers it, and who votes to keep it or kill it. They do have to run for re-election eventually.
Hmm. They’ve been paying since 1984. Guess I’m 25 years behind :)
Still, I’ve been paying into Social Security longer than they have!
Did Kennedy phone in his vote? He isn’t attending is he?
well, gotta say this for Teddy Boy....if he is willing to jump aboard the Obamacare train in his current condition, then his derangement truly comes from a very sincere place...
As I said, Kennedy, Dodd etc. are apparently aware that voting against this amendment would leave them them extremely exposed politically. As the hypocrites that they are. But they can trust the rest of Congress to ensure that there is a separate and superior system established to take care of our Overlords and their families.
Rush was just reading from page 16 of the health coverage bill. It was pretty depressing.
1) Upon passage of the bill, it will become illegal for anyone to buy or sell a private insurance policy.
2) HSA option is to be eliminated.
What that means is that upon passage of the bill, I will no longer have a valid private insurance policy. I will not be allowed to purchase a private policy, nor will my employer be allowed to purchase one for me. I will be required to take the public health care option. I better stock up on lead.......
Welcome to the party, pal.
Call your state legislators and urge them to pass an "opt out" law for your state.
Good one! My state is very blue right now, loony blue. They couldn’t care less about my concerns.
I have decided that I will not sign up for the public policy. When they fine me, I will not pay them. When they serve me with the arrest warrant, I will not turn myself in. When they bang down my door to take me to jail, well, that is the day that I will make the news!
I will not give my physical being to the government to manage.
Your post shows exactly what “public policy” comes down to.
The point of a gun to make you comply.
The threat of deadly violence to make you comply.
Most libs will go to any length imaginable to avoid the reality of what they advocate.
(Or you could move)
This is one of those issues that has the potential to be an issue that energizes people.
If someone is denied/delayed a health care procedure that could previously be received quicker pre Obamacare, or is told to in effect consider Hospice (something that I believe President Obama in effect suggested yesterday) it might be the issue that gets people energized.
Frankly, elected officials not partaking of a health care plan that might be imposed on the electorate is a very legit issue in 2010.
You are 100% correct, the left never thinks those government guns will be turned on them.
I’d consider moving, but I don’t have a clue where to go that this will not follow.
I guess you’ll have to wait until the “grand divorce” and see which states go free.
You’ll not be the only one moving, guaranteed.
Yep and I am pretty sure that I will be welcomed to the new gulch. I can fire almost anything with very effective results.
Yeah! Go Medicine Man! Tell it like it is!
[BTW, this is a Rush Limbaugh echo.]
