CHICAGO: The tallest building in the United States and a prominent feature in Chicago's skyline, the 110-storey Sears Tower will from today be called by a new name Willis Tower.
The official renaming of Sears Tower to Willis Tower and the unveiling of the building's new signage would be presided over by insurance brokerage Willis Group Holdings Chairman and CEO Joseph Plumeri here.
Earlier this year, the London-based insurance broker had won the naming rights for the tower after it negotiated a deal with Sears' management to lease 140,000 square feet of office space at 14.50 dollars a square foot in the tower.
Willis is consolidating five area offices and moving 500 employees to the building.
The 1450-feet glass and steel landmark skyscraper has been known as the Sears Tower since it opened in 1973. It was considered the tallest building in the world until the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia were built in 1998.
Sears Tower is a popular tourist destination in the Windy City. Earlier this month, the tower unveiled its latest attraction - one and half inch thick glass balconies, suspended more than 1,300 feet in the air.
The balconies jut out four feet from the building's 103rd floor, the Skydeck and give people standing on it the impression that they are floating over the city, besides offering a breath-taking view of the city.

They can call it whatever they like as long as I can still refer to it as Sear's Tower. And I will...
The Freepathon is still going strong. Let's put an end to it.
The following is directed to Freepers who haven't donated or signed up for monthlies yet...
is good. 100% is better. You know you're going to do it. Pull the trigger! You don't have to pay it all now. $5 now, $25 next week, $10 later... keep the ball rolling.
Monthly donorship is a good way for us to avoid having to do the Freepathons. Besides, it's a great way to pony up in style.
If you're on the verge of becoming a monthly donor or you think you would like to up your monthly donation a bit, has Jim got a deal for you.
Check this out. There's an added incentive for a limited time only. (Always wanted to type that...)
Thanks to Freepers who have been frequenting the Freepathon thread to ham it up with folks over there. It helps to raise the visibility of the Freepathon.
Jump into the Monthly Donorship special thread too.
The Spirit Of Allegiance says, So do I.

Yeah, like everyone will just start saying Willis.
Marshall Fields became Macy’s. That went over well here too.
People around here still say Comiskey, and that’s even a different building.

That’s like presuming to rename the Chrysler Building. They’re going to be extremely frustrated and get their collective egos bruised, if they honestly expect the public to ever refer to it as anything but Sears Tower.
To: Schnucki
At the rate it is going, the next name will likely be something more like the Hong Kong-Shanghai Golden Tower, or even 香港上海金大厦.

It’s the Sear’s Tower and will always be the Sear’s tower. What’s next: renaming the Chrysler building to the Obama/Fiat building?
