Yesterday the cops shot a bear. WGHP had a poll, and the majority of the respondents said, "They should have used a tranquilizer."
So the cops addressed that.
This is a very interesting dilemna.
Should we protect wildlife even when it threatens us?

“”The bear was not retreating,” said Police Chief Scott Cunningham. “(It was) standing its ground and (it) turned and made face-to-face contact with the officer and was making appropriate animal noises.”
Appropriate animal noises? Police speak for bear grunting and growling. LOL ...

If that bear was being attacked I don’t blame it for shooting, and I don’t blame the police for defending it.

Sometimes real guns are the best tool for the situation, not tranquilizer guns.

I believe we should go out of our way as our lives are intruding on their habitat.
(And no, that is not sarcasm)
These clowns usually have a “shoot first, ask questions later” mentality even when nobody is threatened.

Maybe the bear had to take a dump!

This was the fourth police call in two days for this bear. The cops were tired of chasing around town after it, easier to shoot it and wait several more years for the next bear to wander into town.

I never would have imagined a bear being in that region of the state!!Winston is close to Mount Pilot park and Belew's Creek park.
Lots of wilderness just north of the city.
And the Blue Ridge Parkway is maybe 40 miles up the road.

Not guilty, though.

Good episode of "Cops" - a fat, shirtless bear in your backyard...going through your trash. A short foot pursuit into the woods followed by shots. I guess the only thing missing was a round of nightstick clubbings :)

I guess I would get a little cranky if someone shot me while eating dinner.

Should we protect wildlife even when it threatens us? Ok, where are the bite and scratch marks. The last I heard most cops spoke dumb, but not to much bear.
To: HIDEK6
I fail to see an issue in police shooting an aggressive, problem bear. It appears that the police took a very contemplative approach. Those desiring the expensive tranquilizer approach should obviously be taxed more.

I never would have imagined a bear being in that region of the state!! Last year a bear was run over by a car at the intersection of 75 and 285 in north Atlanta, Ga.. Probably on his way to the peach tree mall.

Those desiring the expensive tranquilizer approach should obviously be taxed more. And have the bear released in their backyards...it's only fair.

I have no problem with the police shooting a nuisance bruin. The only problem I have is that any private citizen would have been arrested and heavily fined for having done the same thing.
