Obama to probe response to mass killings (POTUS Accusing Advisors/Troops of Murder?)
UPI ^ | 13 Jul 09

ACCRA, Ghana, July 12 (UPI) -- President Barack Obama said he has ordered a probe of the U.S. response to mass killings of Taliban prisoners of war by forces of an American-backed warlord.

In an interview with CNN, Obama said the investigation would focus on reports the Bush administration resisted calls for a probe into the deaths of as many as 2,000 Taliban POWs in 2001, during the early days of the war in Afghanistan.

"The indications that this had not been properly investigated just recently was brought to my attention," Obama said during his visit to Ghana. "So what I've asked my national security team to do is to collect the facts for me that are known, and we'll probably make a decision in terms of how to approach it once we have all of the facts gathered up."

The Taliban prisoners had surrendered to the U.S.-backed Northern Alliance in late 2001, CNN said on its Web site Sunday night.

The New York Times, citing government officials and human-rights organizations, reported Saturday that Bush administration officials repeatedly discouraged efforts to investigate the mass killings.

The Times said officials from the FBI, the State Department, the Red Cross and human rights organizations had sought an investigation into the deaths but Bush administration officials were reluctant to investigate because the warlord, Abdul Rashid Dostum, was on the payroll of the CIA and his militia had worked closely with U.S. Special Forces in 2001.

Sources told the Times U.S. officials also expressed concern about undermining the government of Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai, for whom Dostum served as a defense official.

Once again the Loons on the Left, the STATISTS, can not or will not read the GHC to find out and comprehend in accordance with the GHC what constitutes a POW. The Taliban do not meet the requirements of the GHC for POW Status.

Of course UPI wrote this so it is bound to contain errors, but I don't think the Talibans that surrendered were POWs. The Geneva Convention very clearly defines a POW characteristics. These persons (non uniformed combatants) were irregular combatants. What they rated was to be questioned and then be shot.

However, they will be painted as saints on a religious pilgrimage which were killed by the Evil US backed forces.

greater the effort by Rahm and Company to put the focus back on Bush-Cheney.

Rahm and Company are political whores. They will never take responsibility for anything. After eight years of Clinton ignoring Osama bin Laden, they blame Bush for 9/11. Then we have a show trial to cover Jamie Gorelick's butt for creating 'the wall' while she sits on the committee. Nothing is too absurd for them to try (and get away with it)!

It’s OK because I see the day approaching when all this leads to investigation of what is happening under Obama. If I know my leftists, it won’t be pretty.

His continued attempt to govern as if he is still a senator criticizing the Bush administration is getting really old.

My guess is that while in Ghana, Obama was handed a letter that read...

His Excellency and Most Honorable Son of Kenya:

I am a member of the royal family. Our family has been under investigation and we are trying to find a way to get our funds out of the country.

You have been mentioned as an honorable person, who is in a position to help us. We are looking for a person who can take receipt of $37.5 million dollars U.S. We would appreciate it if you would hold those funds for up to six months, until we can come to the U.S. to collect them back from you.

As a thank you, we are willing to leave 10% of those funds in your account, when you return the funds to us. There are only two things you need to do, to help us.

Please send us a $100 check so that we can determine your bank account number. We will then send the funds promptly. We would also ask that you investigate the maltreatment of Taliban members by the Bush administration. If you just check into that, we will send $70 million U.S. instead of the $37.5 million.

Please hurry. The Nigerian troops are at the door.

Thank you.

Of course Obama would believe anything that charged the Bush, Cheney, or the U.S. with a crime. Hence the need for an investigation.

And all that money...

By now the check is in the mail.

Ya gotta love policy probably driven by the fact that some liberal got around to reading Horse Soldiers during his summer vacation and got outraged.

For those who haven't read it, it's a pretty good book which covers the very early days of the SF folks on the ground, dealing with folks like Dotsum.

I used to think that Obama was just deluded and naive. Now it looks like he is truly and genuinely diabolical.

Hopefully that is the case. I’d rather have a stupid president than an evil one who knows exactly what he is doing.

This is the crisis of the day from the Bush administration that must be investigated. This will be repeated as needed to draw attention away from their agenda.

Thanks for the heads-up, xzins. Yes, I had seen this percolating out there over the weekend. From the article:

............."n an interview with CNN, Obama said the investigation would focus on reports the Bush administration resisted calls for a probe into the deaths of as many as 2,000 Taliban POWs in 2001, during the early days of the war in Afghanistan.".......

So, it seems Obama is interested in Bush's response? There won't be any forensics, etc. to conclusively nail any Taliban or Special Forces this far away from the incident. But they could build a case that with what they had at the time, maybe Bush should have done pushed for a probe. Anyway, that's my take.

We entered Afghanistan on October 7, 2001.

I remember it well because a number of anti-Bush freepers were screaming because it didn't happen fast enough after 9/11.

Whoever they were, they looked pretty stupid after the invasion and lightning quick removal of the Taliban from power. I'm glad I don't remember their screennames. :)

“Probe US response” = investigate, iirc, General Tommy Franks and his staff and organization and troops.

Have you learned nothing from the Haditha show-trials?

Is not this a way that the unscrupulous could rewrite the stunning ground victories in both Afghan and Iraq?

Zer0 is hell-bent to dismantle the world’s best military - and we Americans will be defenseless.

When the massacre begins, I hope he is the first one hauled up to face his fate.
