If you have read Horse Soldiers: The Extraordinary Story of a Band of US Soldiers Who Rode to Victory in Afghanistan you will be outraged by the statement that the President intends to investigate the actions of General Dostum in the death of 1,000 Taliban prisoners, while also investigating the Bush administrations unwillingness to press charges of some sort at the time.
You may not know, but Dostum is a colorful General in the Northern Alliance, working on various sides of various issues and often for himself, as warlords do. This event is with respect to the prison riot that erupted after the Taliban started to collapse in the fall of 2001. That is the prison riot where an American CIA agent was killed by the Taliban prisoners.
For background, a small team of US special forces and CIA agents went into Afghanistan in the fall of 2001, right after 9-11 and teamed with what was left of the northern alliance (Dostum and others) to take down the Taliban. They fought against the Taliban in some of the most unconventional ways - taking on Taliban Tanks while Dostum's guys and CIA were on horse back, calling in JDAM GPS guided weapons from B52s built in the 60's, using a satellite hand held radio. Special Forces, CIA, and the Northern Alliance did what the Russians had failed to do, take over Afghanistan. And they did it in months.

Obama is out of his mind if he’s even thinking of a prosecution. I’m trying to be hopeful that this is just dead-end pandering to the Moonbat Left that will lead to nohting.
Obama is only doing this kind of stuff because he knows it will be a huge distraction while he completes his real objectives: killing the US economy and the US military.
Bush took down the Taliban with a handful of special forces guys. That is what will go into the history books.
If Obama tries to prosecute him for that, and please God I hope he does, that is what will go down in the history books under “Obama”. That, alongside his eventual impeachment and removal from office.

“Out of his mind” is a gentle reprimand for a CinC who would stir up a “war crimes” investigation in Afghanistan NOW- at same time a surge he just ordered has just begun and our brave men are dying over there
The tolly bon must need a morale boost and some propganda support- to have our US president bloviating about “war crimes” backed by the US
For Marxist Obama this is a "two-fer".
First, with his declining poll numbers threatening his governmental takings, he needs to prop himself the only way he knows how, which is by attacking Dubya. (Sooner-or-later someone will catch on to this pattern, n'est ce pas?)
And second, he chooses to villainize and stigmatize the one group of Americans he and BFF Bill Ayers* so jealously hate...our precious U.S. Military.
.
Here is Obama chum Bill Ayers expressing his views on our wonderful country.
.
So far he hasn’t let the prison pictures out so I hope he has the political sense not to open this can of worms.
parsy, who will be merciless in his criticism if he does
Lefties have always made atrocity claims about this episode, based on the alleged use of disproportionate force and the alleged execution of some of the prisoners. The Stalinist fossils at the East German communist party made a propaganda video about it within weeks, omitting to mention that the prisoners were very heavily armed. This has percolated through lefty and peace activist circles for some time and has become something of a standard meme. It appears that it has finally reached the White House.
Does Obama know what war is? The Dumb@ss thinks this distraction will slow his descending poll numbers.
Obama is a dedicated Marxist thug.....nothing is beneath him.
“Bush took down the Taliban with a handful of special forces guys.”
Exactly ! The fall of the Taliban government in Kabul to the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan was a fantastic achievement for Bush and Rumsfeld as well as the Special Forces. Very imaginative when one compares this operation with the way the Russians handled their invasion.
But this success was met with grudging silence for the most part by our numbnutz media and the Congressional Democrats who probably were drooling at the prospect of another Vietnam. The only conclusion they could reach was that we failed because we couldn’t produce Bin Laden’s corpse.
Now Obama is promoting a phony “atrocity” investigation which he hopes will give him another opportunity to apologize to terrorists. I hope this latest treacherous trial balloon fizzes the like all of the other ones that he has floated recently.
“disproportionate force” - most people here will agree...
the use of this phrase in media reporting is a symptom in the pussification of Western culture.
There is no such thing in war. Hell, there is no such thing in a dang bar fight. You fight to win and move on.
The concept of a fair fight in war went out around the American revolution. Maybe these weenies think we should line up like the redcoats and fire at the same time?
Obama is so horrible, he could care less if this also
puts our troops in even more danger. What Bush and our
Special Forces was amazing.
He will open this can of worms and many more because he is already becoming desperate. All is not going as planned, and the people are starting to wake up to the nightmare that he is, so time to pull out GWB to distract the sheeple.
He is very, very stupid for doing this. First, it was not our military that had anything to do with the prison riots, it was the Northern Alliance. Secondly, even though the press is not telling you, we have Marines dying at a record pace in Afghanistan right now. This is Obama’s surge, Afghanistan is Obama’s war now.
