Dem.Leader Laughs at Idea That House Members Would Actually Read HealthCare Bill Before Voting On It

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said Tuesday that the health-care reform bill now pending in Congress would garner very few votes if lawmakers actually had to read the entire bill before voting on it. “If every member pledged to not vote for it if they hadn’t read it in its entirety, I think we would have very few votes,” Hoyer told CNSNews.com at his regular weekly news conference. Hoyer was responding to a question from CNSNews.com on whether he supported a pledge that asks members of the Congress to read the entire bill before voting on it and also make the full text of the bill available to the public for 72 hours before a vote. In fact, Hoyer found the idea of the pledge humorous, laughing as he responded to the question. “I’m laughing because a) I don’t know how long this bill is going to be, but it’s going to be a very long bill,” he said.

This is SO WRONG!!! Either he is all for pulling one over on "we the people" or he just doesn't know how to read.

I will take "pulling one over" for $100.00 Alex.

This is the same arrogance that we saw with the House bank scandal.

If this crap does not rise to the level of high crimes and misdemeanors I will kiss your stinking patootie. Any legislator that votes for such legislation should be impeached.

Yeah, I know the Communist Democrats have the ball.

Steny Hoyer needs to be put on trial, found guilty, and locked up with “bunk muffin” for the rest of his life.

Let’s see how tricky his dickey is then!!

I wonder what the country would have been like had the delegates not read the Declaration of Independence and had it been drafted by an intern pulling sections of text from every “wish list” request of England proposed in the preceding 12 years. Perhaps all alternate universe do converge...

Cheney needs to take Hoyer hunting! Hoyer is an abomination! Every elected official needs to read and understand every bill before casting a vote for or against it. Failure to do so is a dereliction of duty.

No bill should be longer than the Constitution and Declaration of Independence. Anything huge and complicated (written by lawyers) needs to be soundly defeated. Keep it simple, congress!

Of course he laughs. He knows they can’t read and he doesn’t want the GOP to have an unfair advantage.

It sounds like a joke at first doesnt it?

Steny isnt kidding though. When he voted on the stimulus bill after his constituents begged him not to he stated then that he didnt have to do what his constituents wanted.

He keeps the pork rolling into Maryland and has half the coutry believeing that he keeps the Pax River Naval Air Station open singlehanded, and they arent about to vote him out.

Ahh!!! that pork and the benefits of being an incumbent are hard to overcome. Do we need term limits?? Here is the best advertisement in the world that we do, but no way people like Steny will ever pass that one.

This pretty much says everything that needs to be said.

Over and about that every person who serves in the Congress should be asked if they are going to sign up for what they are mandating for us. If not they should be made to explain why not...................like we don't know.

I know the bill’s long, but we’ve existed for 230 years without Cap and Trade. We can’t go an extra week without it, to make sure we know what we’re signing into the books?

Reminds me of what Tocqueville said about certain democratic agitators: they’re not satisfied to get outside by walking down the stairs; they have to throw themselves out the second-story window.

"I am a tax and spend Democrat"

-Steny Hoyer

That's a direct quote from my congressman.

Steny Hoyer, proof you can't underestimate the stupidity of Southern Maryland's voters.

I, for one, will not cast my vote for ANY current elected official who is now in office.

Their arrogance is there for all to see and they are not even trying to conceal it for the voters.

When questioned about performing their duties and informing themselves about the contents of bill that they are to vote on they have the gall to laugh about it which is a total sign of disrespect for the voters who elected them.

As long as the voters continue to return these same arrogant dopes to Washington nothing will ever change except that everything will continue to get worst until there are no freedoms left and the need for them to seek re-election because they have done away with the voters and a special select group will appoint who they want to be in office.

There could be a line in there that at 70 you have to report for recycling and they'd pass it.

The ridiculous part of his statement is that most of the congress are very well educated lawyers. They have massive staffs that can read and write a synopsis and can look for things that they are told to.

It is an insult to marginalize the process of investigating what you are signing. If they were all held personally responsible for their signatures they would read them you can bet.

Good point.

Why don’t they ‘read’ it?

PLAUSIBLE DENIABILITY.
