U.S. President Barack Obama delivered a letter from Senator Edward Kennedy to Pope Benedict on Friday and asked the Roman Catholic pontiff to pray for the senator, who is suffering from an incurable brain tumor.

Deputy National Security Adviser Denis McDonough said the Pope and the president concluded their half-hour meeting with a discussion about Kennedy, whose brother John F. Kennedy was the first Roman Catholic president of the United States.

"The president delivered a letter from Senator Kennedy to the Holy Father. He also asked that the Holy Father pray for ... Kennedy, who as we all know is ill," McDonough told reporters on Air Force One en route from Rome to Ghana.

"The contents of the letter were not known to anybody that I know of except Senator Kennedy," Gibbs said when asked about the letter.

His Royal Majesty: Sir Rhosis of Liver, Count of Chappaquiddick, Baron of Au Bar, and Captain of the S.S. Oldsmobile obviously has a lot weighing on his mind these days. (pun intended)

So you think it’s a letter of apology?

Ain’t gonna work, Uncle Teddy.

The Pope can pray for you, but you have to atone for your own sins. That requires confession and penance.

Murder is a mortal sin.

Maybe the reason Kennedy has a tumor is because of his support of abortion.

"...asked the Roman Catholic pontiff to pray for the senator..."

I think it's a little too late for that. There isn't a prayer rug thick enough to help old Ted.

Sorry Teddy no matter what Bill Clinton says you can’t “buy” a pardon from the Pope. No “Kennedy” old boy network connections into Heaven.

Was the letter written on the back of a Scotch Label?

The pope isn't the one he needs to apologize to.

The Prayer request is a smokescreen. They should be asked if they are willing to go to confession and turn from the sin of promoting murder (Abortion) and Adultery (In Massachusetts and attempting to relax “Don't Ask, Don't tell”)? And to present serious evidence of their repentance?
