The Wall Street Journal's Peggy Noonan, who famously wrote for President Ronald Reagan but slowly become a RINO thanks to spending way too much time in the Beltway (see this embarrassing clip of Ms. Noonan from September of last year declaring the GOP dead meat) is no longer a must-read.
In her post today, she bashes Sarah Palin one final time, just to make sure that the almost former Alaskan governor knows what the main streamers think about her and her policies.
Among the pathetic quotes:
Her history does not need to be rehearsed at any length. Ten months ago she was embraced with friendliness by her party. The left and the media immediately overplayed their hand, with attacks on her children. The party rallied round, as a party should. She went on the trail a sensation but demonstrated in the ensuing months that she was not ready to go national and in fact never would be. She was hungry, loved politics, had charm and energy, loved walking onto the stage, waving and doing the stump speech. All good. But she was not thoughtful. She was a gifted retail politician who displayed the disadvantages of being born into a point of view (in her case a form of conservatism; elsewhere and in other circumstances, it could have been a form of liberalism) and swallowing it whole: She never learned how the other sides think, or why. It's about time that those that claim to be Republicans stop throwing water into their own boats and concentrate on defeating the Democrats. Until then, we will remain in the wilderness. In television interviews she was out of her depth in a shallow pool. She was limited in her ability to explain and defend her positions, and sometimes in knowing them. She couldn't say what she read because she didn't read anything. She was utterly unconcerned by all this and seemed in fact rather proud of it: It was evidence of her authenticity. She experienced criticism as both partisan and cruel because she could see no truth in any of it. She wasn't thoughtful enough to know she wasn't thoughtful enough. Her presentation up to the end has been scattered, illogical, manipulative and self-referential to the point of self-reverence. "I'm not wired that way," "I'm not a quitter," "I'm standing up for our values." I'm, I'm, I'm.
Noonan like a houseguest who does not take the hint - has overstayed her welcome and should slink away NOW and go read her books-——and let patriot-heroes like Sarah take on the beasts of the beltway.
- It’s about time that those that claim to be Republicans stop throwing water into their own boats and concentrate on defeating the Democrats. Until then, we will remain in the wilderness.
WE? WE? got a rat in your pocket lady? no way you and i are in the same old party. you dried up old Sarah Palin envious, no talent hag!!!
(sorry, i get very emotional when i see my old lost love that betrayed me & my former party.)
Peggy Noonan or Sarah Palin? Hmmmmm.....let’s see....Peggy Noonan or Sarah Palin...Sarah Palin or Peggy Noonan?
Tough choice, huh?
Let’s see: journalist who has no accomplishments, governor, of Alaska. Journalist or governor. Journalist or governor.
Hard choice.
What’s wrong with saying Palin should know how the other side thinks? You have to know in order to convert people over to your side. You must be able to refute what they say and do. Reagan was able to do it, and he did it very well. It’s seems very sexist to be pointing out Peggy’s age. Palin will be old too one day in the not too distant future. What then? Palin better hurry and run for President before her clock expires, 2012 will be her last chance according to your logic. No way will Palin unite the party, look at how her supporters are acting. They are acting angry because Palin gets you guys angry on purpose by responding to every single little attack. Palin knows exactly what she is doing. I wish I was wrong about her. This country won’t survive the next 10 years between what the left is and what the right is deteriorating into.
Hey Peggy - HELLO!!!! God knows you are so gifted to know all & be all...but poor Sarah.......!!
Poor Sarah, along with us who support her, knows exactly WHAT the other sides think & also WHY they think the way that they do.
That is exactly why Sarah is doing what she's doing & why so many of us agree with her.
Case in point......"retail politicians" .... huh?
What's a retail politician? One you can't get wholesale? One you get at a retail outlet? High-end Rodeo Drive retail? Filene's Basement?
It's so odd, has to be a Noonanism. Peggy has always done this, introduce guirky language to try to pass herself off as Insider and Deep because She Uses The Language in Such a Unique Way...
Sometimes I have read some of her stuff (though I put a stop to reading her stuff late last summer) and would swear she writes DRUNK.
I thought she used to be pretty fair. But lately she has turned on the GOP and conservatives in general with vengeance. Now she is just another hack in the MSM.
Peggy fade away gracefully.
Peggy, you are a has-been. Please go away.
Peggy really has only one complaint. It is that Sarah might not fit in real well at some Georgetown cocktail party.
Which is exactly why we like her.
I’m glad I never bought any of her books.
Self-interest, pure and simple. Keeps the invites flowing.
Anyone who endorsed Obama should not try to pass themselves off as conservative. Noonan blew it.
I put Peggy in the same category as Ariana Huffington... a flip-flopping liberal socialist loving turncoat.
Peggy, you have lost your way in that wilderness. Please don’t pretend to be a conservative any longer. You only look a little silly and a lot pathetic.
Give The Villages a call peggy or you might be put out to pasture with the rest of the ornery nags by mistake.
The opinion page of the WSJ always has one liberal writer. That liberal is supposed to be Franks. Since Peggy is now a liberal and has supported Obama, shouldn’t one of them be eliminated from opinion journal? After all, the WSJ opinion page IS one the rare pages that balance the vast avalanche of liberal page. We sure don’t need yet another liberal there as well!
