FAIRBANKS Gov. Sarah Palin is planning to talk gun rights with local radio personality Michael Dukes today and will sign several pieces of Second Amendment-related legislation in Fairbanks.
Palin unexpectedly resigned a week ago, saying she will transfer power to Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell on July 26 in Fairbanks. Since her announcement, Palin has traveled to remote Alaska communities, offering TV interviews to national networks near Bristol Bay, signing a bill in McGrath and meeting with constituents in Kotzebue.
On Wednesday, Palins communication director Dave Murrow said he expects the governor to continue her travels.
Shes stacking up opportunities to be with the people; she sees herself as the peoples governor, Murrow said. She just wants to be with the people of Alaska, and what a time to do it. Its beautiful weather. She got a roaring reception in Kotzebue (on Tuesday).
Dukes said Palin will be his guest for the first hour of his 4-6 p.m. talk show on KFAR.
Each Friday, his show focuses on Second Amendment issues and guns in general, the conservative radio host said.
Second Amendment advocate and rocker Ted Nugent also is expected to call in, according to Palins office.
The program can be heard at 660 AM in Fairbanks or online at kfar660.com.
Shes had a standing invitation to my show, Dukes said when asked if Palin responded to a request by him. Its always good to talk to Sarah.
She first appeared on the show in 2002 while campaigning for the Republican nomination as lieutenant governor and has returned several times. Dukes said callers light up all lines when Palin is a guest.
House Bill 201, sponsored by Rep. Craig Johnson, R-Anchorage, changes the expiration date for concealed handgun permits from five years from the date of issue, to five years on the holders birthday.
House Joint Resolution 27, sponsored by Rep. Mike Kelly, R-Fairbanks, re-asserts state sovereignty.
HJR 17, sponsored by Rep. John Harris, R-Valdez, opposes Blair Holt firearm legislation in Congress.
Senate Joint Resolution 3, sponsored by Sen. Gene Therriault, R-North Pole, expresses the states desire that the federal government allow firearms in national parks.
SJR 10, sponsored by Sen. Joe Thomas, D-Fairbanks, supports passage of a federal act establishing a national reciprocity agreement that would allow people with concealed weapons permits greater latitude in crossing state lines.

Palin PING!
Anyone on or off the Palin ping, write me.

Ya got to love it.
Thanks for the ping!
Lovely picture. Parnell sounds like he is a pretty stand up fellow too, although in politics that can change.
Hmmm Sarah is traveling all over Alaska...to remote areas and the media is following her.......Maybe she could get a couple of them lost....
Or is it a version of:
See The U-S-A, where’s the Chev-ro-let?
Doug have you done that one yet?
This gal has no power absolutely no power /sarc
Ya got to love it.
That's probably his alias...
Sarah will now get her book out, go on tour, give speeches and promote conservatie principles all over this country in the midst of the Obama administration disater and gain great political capital in the process. Then she will support conservative candidates in 2010 and help them win, amassing much more political capital. She will then take all of that and make an awesome, stunning run for the Presidency in 2012.

Wow I’ve never seen that picture before. She looks great. Anyway, can’t wait to see her campaign for conservatives..
Pinging the pinger for Gun Rights
Wow Now that’s real breaking legislation...
Change to birthday vs issue date for permits NOT NEEDED to carry in Alaska. AS 11.61.220 (http://www.dps.state.ak.us/Statewide/PermitsLicensing/achpfaq.aspx)
So if you travel AND the state recognizes an AK permit, you can CCW while Outside with the remaining permit. Yawn.
The remainder are non-binding ‘resolutions’ like the FedGov cares.
PR moves, yup. Do they really matter? Nope, for most folks living here.
And as a bonus, her vacation travel/ electioneering is now on the state dime - I would expect some worm to file a complaint on this one fairly soon. Sigh.
Please put me on the Palin Ping list
List seems a bit underwhelming and/or outdated.
HB 201 is just a tweak to bureaucracy. IIRC, you don’t need a permit to carry in AK at all (the card is just a formality for anyone who insists on having one).
HJR 27 sounds good. More states on the soveriegnty bandwagon is good.
HJR 17 is good, but toothless. Just a statement of “we don’t like that, please don’t go there.”
SJR 3 is redundant. That rule change has already passed (just waiting for it to take effect).
SJR 10 is also good but toothless. Just go ahead and formally recognize EVERYONE’s carry permit already - and that being just a formality to initiate reciprocity with those state which would but require a formal statement of mutual recognition.
Not so for any Alaskan who wishes to carry in other states. I think there are over thirty states which would permit an Alaskan with a permit from Alaska to carry in that state. Without the Alaska permit, the Alaskan would have to get some other state's permit.
There are several states which recognize permits from other states, but only if the permit holder is a resident of that state. Colorado, I think, will recognize the permit of an Alaskan carrying an Alaskan permit. But Colorado will not recognize any other permit that an Alaskan holds. And Colorado will not issue permits to non-residents. That means that an Alaskan without an Alaska permit cannot carry in Colorado.
That is exactly what I meant: the card is provided for anyone who insists on having a card. If you're visiting a state that insists you have a CCW card from AK, there you go. If you're visiting VT, they don't care if you have a card or not.
Reciprocity. With an Alaska permit you can carry in those states that recognise it. No state recognises a Vermont permit.
