The city of Hoover will get $400,000 in federal stimulus money for a landscaping and beautification project at the Interstate 65 and U.S. 31 interchange, city officials learned this week.
The project will be paid completely with federal funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, according to the Alabama Department of Transportation.
The city will not be required to provide any matching funds for the project.
Mayor Tony Petelos said news of 100 percent federal funding comes as the city is completing the spruce-up of the Alford Avenue interchange, which is the first Hoover exit on I-65 South and the entrance to the Shades Mountain neighborhood.
The city in March accepted a $229,514 bid from Forestry Environmental Services for that project.

I notice a lot of this money is going to save bureaucrats from losing their jobs.
I have heard of hoghway signs being paid for with our money, other signs like for park and ride lots: signs are a big thing because they get to have the “Recovery brought to you by Zero and his band of clowns” logo.
And I heard stimulus money went to some symphony orchestras...gotta keep them oboes employed.

I live in Hoover. This is an absurd waste of federal money. It also won’t buy any votes for the rats...Hoover is a solid Republican town.
The locals need to get their video cell phones and cameras charged up and ready to take pictures. And make sure they start a conversation to see how many say "No habla Engles."
