Former Bay State Gov. Mitt Romney is locked in a statistical dead heat with Sarah Palin for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination, despite the Alaska governor’s abrupt resignation last week, according to a new poll of Republican voters.

Romney leads all Republican presidential contenders, garnering 25 percent of the vote, edging out Palin (24 percent), former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (22) and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (14 percent) in the Rasmussen poll released yesterday.

We are approximately 39 months away from the 2012 election. If the GOP and conservatism in general is down to 4 viable candidates either the candidate pool is horribly thin OR there are others out there to consider.

The problem is the current Administration can’t get out of the car without stepping on their crank and twisting. This was bound to happen and will only get worse until the GOP actually finds some leadership that can actually produce a workable platform that isn’t saying “Well, at least they aren’t THEM”…..

And it's time for the buckeyes to let go of being a national contender in football. They need to take a time out to recruit real players to win key football games.

I don’t see McCain winning this and the silver lining is that if we can survive 4 years of Obama with the Dems completely in control they will mess things up so bad people will be ready for a real change. The question is, who is the Reagan that will run in 4 years. Reagan was out there for more than 4 years preparing his candidacy against Carter.

This person doesn’t necessarily have to be a Reagan clone. Just a person with a concrete set of ideals (which McCain lacked) who has a proven record will do.

There’s already a Carter(Obama)and a Reagan(Palin); so why wait?

The sad part is you think Palin is anywhere near capable of even holding Reagan’s jock strap. If she is all the GOP can muster as a “Reagan”, the party is in even worse shape than I already think it is…..

At first I was hopeful about this line of reasoning, but it’s BS. There really IS a Democratic renewal happening in this country. Call it brain-washing or whatever, the fact of the matter is there are more and more Democrats registering every day and more and more of the GOP base is dying off. I never would have believed it until I’ve spent a couple months on different campuses around the country at seminars. The GOP has COMPLETELY missed the boat and I’m absolutely NOT shocked by that development at all.
