'Obama's Iceberg'
Hot Air ^ | July 08, 2009 | Veronique de Rugy

Posted on 07/08/2009 11:46:04 AM PDT by RobinMasters

This morning, Michael Gerson of the Washington Post compares President Obama to the captain of the Titanic minutes before his ship sunk. He also acknowledges that stimulus spending isn't stimulating (there is more and more of that in the page if the Post):

The stimulus package hasn't been very stimulating — as many economists predicted. Pouring money into the economy through a thirsty sponge of federal programs — the preferred method of Congress — is slow and inefficient. In retrospect, all of the stimulus funds should have been given to individuals directly from the tap.

There's just decades and decades of evidence that government spending does not grow the economy. And there is just as much evidence that tax cuts do grow the economy. At this point, to suck $800B out of the economy, and have the government spend it, in an effort to grow the economy, is just a willful effort to do damage.

The problem was debt. They knew that. And they borrowed money in an effort to get out of debt. You can't be that dumb. It's deliberate destruction.

This idea of “stimulus” is akin to taking corn from farmers, and feeding them by putting it in the supermarket.

There's a big problem with the Titanic analogy here...

...back in the day, the crew of the Titanic tried to steer clear of it....

Today? President Obama's order would be...

Full Speed Ahead!

OT: Since John Harris (Blago’s Chief of Staff), has pleaded guilty to selling the senate seat, I thought some may want to reacquaint themselves with the family and relations to the O:

I suggest these neglected must reads (spread them around again please:

More typical is the recent reaction of Colin Powell, a close Obama ally. "We can't pay for it all," said Powell. "I'm concerned at the number of programs that are being presented, the bills associated with these programs, and the additional government that will be needed to execute them."

Even Colin Powell is abandoning this spending frenzy.

Powell might be useful in the way canaries in mines were useful. When Powell, a centrist, objects . . . perhaps that is a sign that middle America. . . those precious swing votes . . . is swinging back to fiscal reality.

He will fiddle while his country implodes around him...

...can't believe what has already become of our country.

He also acknowledges that stimulus spending isn't stimulating

Now the Snake Oil King can enter stage Left with the pronouncement "...we need another stimulus package". Hey!You have been warned....did you get that? He just hours ago, sent Harry Reid forth to proclaim there would be no more stimulus package.....Now you understand Switch & Bait 101. Or Saul Alinsky's "keep them off balance...."

Obama lies and lies and lies and lies....wonder what the Kid gave away in Russia......

This idea of “stimulus” is akin to taking corn from farmers, and feeding them by putting it in the supermarket.

Or, as Churchill put it: "For a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle."

Apologize for the torpedoes. Full speed ahead.

Steyn sat in for Rush today and was absolutely “fab”! I can say that about Steyn, right?

The sad news is that everything that he said is right on; whether by plan or by sheer stupidity, Obama and his ilk in the house are going to absolutely destroy our economy.

Heck, if the WaPo is reporting this. I am that much more afraid of the news!

Imagine the kick the economy would of got if instead of the obama stimulus federal withholding had been reduced to zero for the first half of the year.

It would of had an instantaneous and massive impact on the economy and spending in general.
