Former White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove was deposed Tuesday by attorneys for the House Judiciary Committee, according to Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.), the panel’s chairman.
Rove’s deposition began at 10 a.m. and ended around 6:30 p.m, with several breaks, Conyers said.
Conyers would not comment on what Rove told congressional investigators, what the next step in the long-running Judiciary Committee investigation would be or whether Rove would face additional questioning.
“He was deposed today,” Conyers said in an interview. “That’s all I can tell you.”
Rove's attorney, Robert Luskin, declined to confirm or deny that his client had appeared before the committee. Luskin said there was an agreement that the depositions would remain confidential until they were completed.
However, in a court filing Monday, the Justice Department indicated that the deposition set for this week would be the committee's last.
Conyers’ panel had first subpoenaed Rove in 2007 as part of its probe into the firing of nine U.S. attorneys. But the Bush White House, citing executive privilege, refused to make Rove or White House Counsel Harriet Miers available for any deposition.
Conyers’ panel responded by filing a civil lawsuit against the White House and prevailed in district court last year but the appeals court had yet to address the issue.
With an agreement between the Obama White House, the Bush White House and House Judiciary Committee, the current Justice Department avoided having to choose sides in court and risk an appeals court precedent which could undercut executive privilege or Congress's right to investigate alleged government malfeasance.
Miers was interviewed by Judiciary Committee staffers in June.

So they’re still going after Bush for acting in a legal manner, those attorneys serve at his discretion, but they don’t say boo about an obvious violation of the law Himself co-sponsored when it comes to the IG Walpin. Is this BS or what?
Whereare the probes and grandstanding over the fired IG or the whole issue of czars?
They are both issues of breaking the law and smearing the nose of congress in it, where in the case of US attorneys, they have to reach to get a shade of gray.

The investigation into the firing of the US attorneys is intended as a threat against anyone who tries to bring down ACORN through the court system. Most of the attorneys who were fired were fired for refusing to prosecute ACORN cases.
How could Rove possibly contain and not reveal the total contempt he must have for the ignorant and corrupt Conyers?

You're right, of course, but the problem is that for the Left, politics is their job and business. For most conservatives, it is a sideline. We are not studied in the art of harassment and fighting in the aim of winning (at all costs).
In related news.... Texas Tech in Lubbock, Tx just announced they hired Alberto Gonzales. Mostly, a conservative school, but some will give him a hard time.

Hmm. That was a long time ago. I have no relcollection. I’m sorry I don’t recall. I don’t remember. I can’t say for sure that I saw that memo. No, I don’t remember reading that. I have no recollection of that event.
I was listening to Michael Medved interviewing Joe Scarborough yesterday. Both were pushing the proposition that the ‘pubbies won’t start winning elections until we soften our tone. “Nobody likes an angry candidate” was their theme.
They spent a lot of time bashing the “hard-core” angry right. I don’t know how it turned out because I turned it off. If they don’t recognize and respect righteous indignation and instead believe that it is somehow “unseemly” to speak out about our rights and our desires for our country, then I fail to see how we are going to prevail in any fight with a foe who is unencumbered by any sense of ethics, morality, or fair play.
I guess this is by way of agreeing with you that we should give no quarter, but I don’t believe that the current Republican hierarchy has the stomach for it.
