Palin: Politically speaking, 'If I die, I die'

The Alaska governor spoke in taped interviews on ABC, NBC, and CNN broadcast Tuesday morning. She told CNN that "all options are on the table" for her future.

But she told ABC's Good Morning America that she recognizes she might not have political staying power after her surprise resignation Friday, which came just as she had been expected to elevate her national profile ahead of a possible 2012 GOP presidential run. "I said before...'You know, politically speaking, if I die, I die. So be it,'" she said.

There has been speculation that she has some legal issue that is not yet known to the public.

Oh, you mean that speculation offered by Shannyn Moore in her column the other day about the supposed pending FBI investigation? That one was a re-hash from some libel in October, and Ms. Moore, and anyone else wanting to offer that argument against Sarah, has been warned by her legal team to knock it off, because it will be actionable if it continues once Sarah is a private citizen.

Does it occur to you that continuing to welcome known enemies such as Steve Schmidt, Nicole Wallace, etc in the Republican inner circles is extremely disrespectful to her and every conservative Republican in the party?

Governor Palin is the most fighting republican in America according to the evidence.

What sets her apart is Palin is more than willing to sacrifice her political career for her honest convictions. As a person, being a politician does not define her like it does with all the other slimy DC pols.

Right. Read her statement, if you want to understand her reasons. If you don't agree that's fine, but it's all out there for everyone to see.

The work she began as Governor will continue under Lt. Gov. Parnell, when he assumes the office. What WON'T continue are the bogus ethics complaints and frivolous lawsuits, because they were aimed at HER, personally, in order to reduce her effectiveness as Governor, and to impoverish her family.

I'm sorry that I sicken you. I find the blind adulation, and the contortionist-like attempts by some to imbue all of Palin’s actions with inherent moral superiority and tactical brilliance, or to invent excuses for her behavior, to be a kind of sad self-delusion that is increasingly akin to the Obamania that has swept this country. Governor Palin seems like a decent person, and I wish her well, but if quitting is a virtue, then I fear the priorities that you have set for this civilized society. Keeping her commitment to the people of Alaska, triumphing over her critics and enemies, while maintaining her family would have been the right message and the right strategy. By resigning, she's done nothing but demonstrate weakness to the Left who (successfully) sought to destroy her. If she wants to be a private citizen again, fine, but let's not hail this as some triumph of conservative leadership. It isn't.

Except for her support of giving more money to “special needs children, we have gotten soundbites and vague generalities about “smaller government’.

Give her time, for goodness's sake! She won't be out of office until July 26th. She'll do what she's going to do after that, then folks can start complaining if she's not a pure enough conservative for them.

I understand that her party has a lot of internal battles, I hope that her influence can strengthen the conservative side of the battle.

If Palin had run in the Republican Primaries, she would have crushed ‘em all easily. I hope she runs for Senate next year then President. Stay active.

It is too early to tell if she is quitting or merely shifting the battlefield and going on the offensive. If she thinks that the battle at the national level is where she is needed most now, the resigantion makes sense. It frees here up to engage in an offensive on that level. Time will tell whhat she has in mind.
