Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele said Tuesday that while he does not know what the future holds for Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who is resigning at the end of the month, he would love to see Palin become more engaged in national politics.
Im very excited about the opportunity to have Sarah Palin freed up now to engage across the country to help, you know, reorient the party and grow it, Steele said during an interview on Fox News Fox and Friends.
She said she now wants to be able to contribute in a different way, and as RNC chairman, I absolutely welcome it, Steele said. So Sarah, come on in. The waters nice.
Steele credited Palin for making a very personal, very difficult decision and blasted those critical of the governors move to step down more than a year before the end of her term.
I've been amused to befuddled in listening to the commentary over the weekend of people who are slamming her now for making a personal decision that she thought that, you know, everything shes going through is interfering with her ability to be a good governor, Steele said.
The RNC chairman also dismissed any speculation that Palin made her decision for political reasons.
All this speculation about whether or not she's running for president is ridiculous, Steele said. I think you need to focus on the fact that she made a personal decision. It was a difficult one. And we, you know, take her at her word.
Sarah Palin will be the ultimate arbiter of when she will engage and how she will engage, he added. And all the speculation not withstanding, she will make that decision.

I dunno........ya know?
If Michael Steele invited me anywhere I would come in heavily armed and watching my back.
LOL. He knows nothing!
Palin, let them kick out a few RINO’s including the guy that was on your ticket last year before going all in.
The current GOP leaders are too democrat.
Sarah to Michael Steele and the rest of the GOP RINOs ... get the hell out
This guy flip flops more than Romney and Kerry. He can not be trusted.
Well, thanks Mike.
Now, about that Honduran statement supporting the legally placed President. When’s that scheduled for?
Something tells me she’s not going to be doing freebie appeareance for the RNC just yet. She’s cashin’ in now. Book deal, lecture circuit, and PAC here we come.
Newsflash, Michael, she’s the leader of the party now.
I heard Steele saying that he believed that Palin would not be a contender for 2012. Unless he’s spoken to her, I think he’s undermining her.
HUH??
Michael Steele better hope Sarah invites HIM and the current GOP to “come on in”.
They need her a lot more than she needs them.
She would do a great a job as RNC Chairman.
She can draw great crowds and raise lots of money.
You betcha!
At least it was a better welcome that Rove gave her.
Well for once, he knew enough to make nice with the future
of his party and ask her for her help.
Hey, Steele, I thought that was YOUR job?
Said the spider to the fly....
Bullseye!
The very definition of a fake smile.
yoh, Steele, you are on the way out!
Gee, Sarah's missing out on all the doors an endorsement from Carl Rove would have presented her with the media.
After the job Carl did managing W's second term, he should just fade away.
