Predatory government at its best!

“law enforcement that is designed specifically to save lives.” “
Not when it comes to speed enforcement. At least in my town, it’s a revenue stream. Period.

...law enforcement that is designed specifically to save lives.
Bull.
It's law enforcement designed specifically to increase revenue.
Just another dishonest, self-serving cop. Nothing to see here.

I wonder if the police chief had an option that saved lives but cost her money, would she choose it? Maybe a little device that warned drivers when they’re approaching an intersection that was dangerous so that they slowed down? Oh wait....

How am I going to pay for my retirement? I will need to work to 65 instead of retiring at 50.

Excellent! I might have to get an iPhone after all... ;-)

This is what she really meant.

Lanier said the technology is a "cowardly tactic"... I'm going to need some explanation on this one. Cowardly HOW?
It strikes me as being the opposite of cowardice to work against a totalitarian government and its police force.

Hmm... maybe an iPhone won’t be so bad.
What are more apps like this to make everyday life easier, Sword?

The greater D.C. area has 290 red-light and speed cameras -- comprising nearly 10 percent of all traffic cameras in the U.S., according to estimates by a camera-tracking database called the POI Factory. Just for the serfs I'm sure. CongressCreatures, High-level Obama Admin Mandarins, and SCOTUS types need not worry.

Just wait until someone figures out how to connect an iPhone to a radar detector. Call it Bear Tweets or some such.
Now there’s a million dollar idea right there...

I’m really sorry that I’m not in the DC area to spraypaint the lenses of the speed cameras. It is simply a revenue raiser, it has NOTHING to do with safety.
Those who are willing to give up their liberties in exchange for the promise of security will not get and will not deserve either.
Here, BTW, is what people in the UK (land of the sheeple) do to their speed cameras (which they call “gatsos”): http://www.speedcam.co.uk/gatso2.htm
Of course, I’d never suggest that Americans, armed with 300 million guns, and with access to a myriad of other explosive or burning chemicals, do anything like the English. Nope, I’d never suggest it - but I’d be happy.

Typical hypocrite. I thought those cameras (speed and stop light) were supposed to get folks to drive in a more sane manner, so why, rhetorical question, is the police department mad that the citizens are using their iPhones to do the same? Doh.

While I don't doubt the ‘saving lives’ angle is correct, the main reason these traps exist is to supplement city income. Take away the profit, and I doubt these Police departments would be so gung-ho about their speed cameras and radar traps.

I guess she would prefer the braver approach of shooting out the cameras...

You got that right. My spouse and I call policemen “revenue enhancers”. That is their main function now. But they won’t be getting any more from us. Nope, we creep along like grannies now.
