VATICAN CITY (Reuters) Pope Benedict on Tuesday called for a "world political authority" to manage the global economy and for more government regulation of national economies to pull the world out of the current crisis and avoid a repeat.
The pope's call for a re-think of the way the world economy is run came in new encyclical which touched on a number of social issues but whose main connecting thread was how the current crisis has affected both rich and poor nations.
Called "Charity in Truth," parts of the encyclical appeared bound to upset conservatives because of its underlying rejection of unbridled capitalism and unregulated market forces, which he said had led to "thoroughly destructive" abuse of the system.
The pope said every economic decision has a moral consequence and called for "forms of redistribution" of wealth overseen by governments to help those most affected by crises.

Someone tell me again about this ‘infallibility’ thing...

Don't quit your day job, the "psychic mind reader" stuff is not going to work out for you.
...the Pope is calling for the formation of the greatest political power the world has ever seen.
Not the Pope, but the vivisected and cauterized version of his words that you posted.
It absolutely does.
Nope.
You can change his words in your post, but you cannot change his words in reality. He said what he said, NOT what you said he said.
Honest question: do you think all these media organizations have read a 51-page document, and have made the right interpretation of it?
Yet, true to the deceitful spirit of Reuters, post 28 has been edited--no, butchered--to fundamentally change the meaning of the original.
Pope endorses world Communism.
Since he is calling for an organization with power to enforce its will, it is STUPID to say “Such an authority would need to be regulated by law, to observe consistently the principles of subsidiarity and solidarity, to seek to establish the common good”.
We have a Constitution - so our government is under law.
Where is Barry’s birth certificate? By what rational reading of the Constitution does the US Government do most of what it does?
42. ...The processes of globalization, suitably understood and directed, open up the unprecedented possibility of large-scale redistribution of wealth on a world-wide scale; if badly directed, however, they can lead to an increase in poverty and inequality, and could even trigger a global crisis. It is necessary to correct the malfunctions, some of them serious, that cause new divisions between peoples and within peoples, and also to ensure that the redistribution of wealth does not come about through the redistribution or increase of poverty: a real danger if the present situation were to be badly managed.
57. ...A particular manifestation of charity and a guiding criterion for fraternal cooperation between believers and non-believers is undoubtedly the principle of subsidiarity, an expression of inalienable human freedom. Subsidiarity is first and foremost a form of assistance to the human person via the autonomy of intermediate bodies. Such assistance is offered when individuals or groups are unable to accomplish something on their own, and it is always designed to achieve their emancipation, because it fosters freedom and participation through assumption of responsibility. Subsidiarity respects personal dignity by recognizing in the person a subject who is always capable of giving something to others. By considering reciprocity as the heart of what it is to be a human being, subsidiarity is the most effective antidote against any form of all-encompassing welfare state. It is able to take account both of the manifold articulation of plans and therefore of the plurality of subjects as well as the coordination of those plans. Hence the principle of subsidiarity is particularly well-suited to managing globalization and directing it towards authentic human development. In order not to produce a dangerous universal power of a tyrannical nature, the governance of globalization must be marked by subsidiarity, articulated into several layers and involving different levels that can work together. Globalization certainly requires authority, insofar as it poses the problem of a global common good that needs to be pursued. This authority, however, must be organized in a subsidiary and stratified way, if it is not to infringe upon freedom and if it is to yield effective results in practice.

Christians, think for yourselves. You don’t need a pope to do it for you, especially when it comes to economics.
“Honest question: do you think all these media organizations have read a 51-page document, and have made the right interpretation of it?
Out of 800+ articles, I think the odds favor that
someone has read it completely. By the end of the
day, many will.
Truthfully, he comes across as a socialist sometimes.
That’s because too many treat the free-market as if it were dogma. It’s a human institution, and subject to imperfections.
A humanism which excludes God is an inhuman humanism.

(2 birds w/one stone. lol!)
I think the proper way to view this, is that the pope realizes that secular global government and financial authorities are going to do this anyway. So all that he is really doing is providing a framework by which the Church will judge their efforts to be either moral or immoral.
Can we wait to see what the encyclical really asys before everyone gets pissy?
“Thats because too many treat the free-market as if it were dogma. Its a human institution, and subject to imperfections.
Hey, if reuters got it wrong, then he gets a pass. If he really said this stuff, he got it wrong and deserves any
criticism that comes his way. Plus, if he really believes
what he said, he deserves to be referred to as a socialist
pope. No more, no less. I’m willing to wait.
“But, gee, what are some of those things you are omitting in your ellipses? “Such an authority would need to be regulated by law, to observe consistently the principles of subsidiarity and solidarity, to seek to establish the common good.””
I cut out what I considered to be portions not directly related to a world authority. No malice intended.
